I know, I know. This should be in OT but Directv's deal ends today and I've been dragging my feet. A few questions and trying to keep this as short as possible so it doesn't turn into me writing a book of all the things running through my brain.

The main reason I'm thinking of switching is to get Sunday Ticket. For a few years I actually had TW for the rest of the house and Directtv hooked up to 1 TV upstairs for sunday ticket - crazy, I know. I ordered Sunday Ticket for the PS3 last year and for $300 or so the quality sucked . Plus I couldn't re-watch any game, my wife is now a nurse + a big Bears fan so there would be no way for her to see half the games.

* Soooo, can you DVR games from Sunday Ticket like you can with normal programming?
* If you can't, do they still show the game without commercials and is that recordable?
* With the HD DVR receiver, how many shows can you record at the same time?

--> Any other thoughts, anyone gone through the same type of switch?

Dish just killed a bunch of channels like AMC, IFC and about a dozen others that TW carries.

I'm looking at Directv not Dish network.

I haven't checked the deals this year but last year I got the high end DTV package and got Sunday Ticket free. I got a smokin' introductory deal on all the premiums. In order to keep the Ticket, you only needed to maintain the basic basic for two years. I would check with them, both online and by phone...they'll usually give you a great deal if you are switching. I kept the premium channels and averaged something like 90/month. Basically had all they offered.

My bad, I thought what I read a week ago it impacted Dish network but at the time I didn't care so wasn't really paying attention. Looks like it is Directv.

* Actually the AMC stuff is on Dish but the same thing is happening with Comedy Central/MTV on Directv, LOL.

My big question is, can you DVR games from sunday ticket? The wife will be working during half the games and if we can't DVR them then it might not be worth it to switch. Thanks.

I had ST last year as part of a new customer deal.

I recorded the redzone channel on a few occasions and never had an issue with it.

I believe that once a channel is part of your package, you have no restrictions on recording.

I think Orangemen is right on this. I have been able to DVR Showtime (during free weekends and not a subscription with Directv) but cannot confirm the same with ST as I have not purchased it in the past.

Assuming you still need Internet access, don't forget to budget for that. It's likely that you're currently getting a more affordable rate than you'll find a-la-carte.

While I have DirecTV, I've never had the Sunday Ticket, so I can't comment in that.

I am a 10+ year DIRECTV subscriber. Make the switch its the best product out there. NOW, currently DIRECTV is in a battle with Viacom. So, there is no MTV, SPIKE, Nickelodon and like a few other stations. But both sides are saying it wont last long and those channels will be back. Just a pissing match over money, but with DirecTV this is rare for them (like the first one they have had in years), unlike TW who has these battles every few months it seems.

But your questions....., YES you can DVR any Sunday Ticket game. I do it every week. With an HD DVR you can record 2 shows at once. With the SUNDAY TICKET on Sunday night they put EVERY game from that day up where they take out the commercials and the filler (ie huddles and such) and YES you can DVR that as well.

Sunday Ticket this year, just the basic Sunday Ticket is only $199. Great deal. Im not sure if you have to pay a little more this year to get the games in HD. I know they have lowered the overall price but not sure if HD feed is included or not.

Thanks a lot everyone for the information/input. Stern I think you answered all my questions. Actually the current deal includes Sunday ticket for free so I don't need to worry about that for at least this year.

since we're talking TV here does anyone have an idea if/when the impasse between NFL network and TW will end? I really miss the NFL red zone channel.

No extra charge for HD but $199 doesn't get you games on your computer, tablet or phone, the red zone channel or the short cuts feature (the non commercial/non filler replay). You need to pay $299 (an add'l $100) for those features to be added to the package.

have had the ST ticket since the mid 90's...... crazy how much better the product has become.... I have never had a problem DVR'ing the games.

By the way the DirecTV vs Viacom (MTV/VH1/SPIKE) thing is already over. You would get all those stations
