IIRC..this term took off during our 95-96 Final Four run. Cuse in the House OMG, OMG

Does anyone remember it being used beforehand locally in CNY?

In the last 17 years it has evolved into a well known word for Syracuse and can be applied for anything about the city, area or school. Personally I love using it and non fans in Texas are even familiar with the term.
Inputs from anyone if it started before John Wallace's Senior year?

On a related sidenote...I have always credited rrlbees with the term "Rutgirls" I think from the old AOL Board. Is this correct?

BTW, go to UrbanDictionary and search "Rutgirls" Please "like" it.

i believe you are correct. and its a fact that our lives are all better because of it.
 
I recall first hearing the term used by Tom Sheehy in the early eighties, when answering a question regarding where his brother Mike was considering going to school. But I don't remember the rest of the details except that I thought it sounded cool and had never heard the term used before. I also remember thinking that it would probably be the only time that Tom would ever be interviewed.

I remember a story in Sports Illustrated about the recruitment of the younger Sheehy. He was being recruited by Virginia. The assistant coach, while driving to his home, killed a dog which turned out to be the Sheehy's dog. Also Virginia had Sal's Birdland chicken wings flown in for his official visit to Virginia.
I think that was the one and only time JB recruited one kid with the hopes of landing another.

it was being used in the mid 80s without question.

i believe it was even used as 'The Cuse' on espn back in the day.
 
The term was used a little in the 80's, but the explosion of the word and its common use today is 100% from the '96 chant. I remember actually going out and buying the Blahzay Blahzay CD with the song "Danger" which was where the chant came from. haha

This. Growing up in the cuse we used it all the time, just like if you were going to NYC, you would be headed to the city.
