OT: Greatest song you've ever heard

It changes daily, but this is always one of my favorites The Smiths "I Know It's Over"

Just curious: why is a thread like this not on the "Off-Topic" board? Are some threads too significant to be relegated to a less popular board?

posted here b/c I post on the bball board most, and was interested in the bball board responses... and well, b/c more ppl view here then the OT board. Technically I'm wrong for posting, but hopefully no one cares.

I'll update my original post at the end to say... I love cuse bball :)

I do miss "Amen" from the sour citrus society. Used to love when they'd play that after wins.

Studio - Wish You Were Here
Live - Badlands

Dopesmoker by Sleep.
Seriously.

Runner-up: Rock Your Baby by George McCrae.

This may not be the best song I've ever heard, but it's a new song that I cannot stop listening to. I'm pretty obsessed. Love the girl in it (Kimbra)

Am I alone, or does anyone else have trouble deciding on this? Heck, if you are also adding in live performances, my memory really becomes a factor, as I have been to a ton of shows. For studio, I am leaning towards Pink Floyd's Echoes. Hell, besides the music, it also gives a history lesson that spans the eons. In the OP, I wasn't shocked to see Floyd, but was to see High Hopes. I will have to give that version a listen

I love the thread, and loved your reasoning for having it HERE. I've done similar things on other message boards, and like that you want it somewhere where it will see the most action. I guess sometimes, in a way, we are thinking like pimps. :) (that emoticon just reminded me that I got ridiculed for using an emoticon earlier today on here. what's up with that? lol)

drinking.. and with Youtube in front of me, got to thinking --- what's the best song you'v ever heard?

About a year ago I started a thread about best tailgating songs and got a number of replies, which was great b/c I found a bunch of new music. So I'm hoping this will generate some interest too.

Now obv we all have top or great songs, but the one that jumps to your mind the moment you read this is the one I'm interested in...

Here's mine:
High Hopes - and this is the version

Witchi-Tie-To by Jim Pepper preferably from their live Berlin Concert, long version, traditional Native Peyote song set to mystical but modern jazz with a pounding primitive beat. Nothing comes close. Go to Apple store and search for Jim Pepper.

Almost ANYTHING by Van Morrison...

Year: 1997

Location: Orange Bowl in Miami

Intoxication substances: Beer and Buds...(not Bud Beer  )

Band: The Rolling Stones

Song: Gimme Shelter

It was EPIC my friends, truly epic. Jagger was in fine form. The black lady backup singer filled the stadium with spine chilling vocals. It holds a nice, warm, special place in my memory.

Ambulance Blues, Neil Young

Here's another:
Recorded on June 15-16, 1965, Columbia Studio A, 799 Seventh Avenue, New York City. Claimed as the greatest song ever written by Rolling Stone Magazine's "The Greatest 500 Songs of All Time".

Funny stuff.

I could probably pick a different "greatest song" for every week of the year actually, there's so many great ones. I'll go with the following today:

women are better

Bohemian Rhapsody is the greatest song of all time.
