Class of 2025 OT Kardiear Shepherd (NY) COMMITTED / SIGNED NLI TO SYRACUSE (12/4/24)

Got a chance to watch him in the first half against Corning last night. His size is legit. He towered over everyone. I thought he moved and carried his weight well. He will need probably 2 years in our strength and conditioning program if I’m honest. His arms are long. I think he’s probably better suited for tackle as he projects out. He started at left tackle and they put him in at DT after Corning was moving the ball up and down the field a few times to start the game. Corning had much more difficultly moving the ball after he came in (they run the triple option). A lot to like potential wise. Worth noting he had a Syracuse back protecter which he was wearing proudly.

Yeah as previously stated, he needs to be patient and trust the process. Maybe a sophmore starter but may take till his redshirt Jr. year to get strength and footwork down as well as technique.

It's crazy that he's already listed at 310lbs, but needs to maybe add 30-40 lbs to really have a football body. I wonder if he can do that between now and August of 2026. Thus getting on the field as a redshirt freshman?

He's already so big and has so much room for added good weight.

looks like an nfl DE

Saw him live this year a few times, most recently in the Secrion 3 finals at the dome against CBA. Size, frame, and movement/flexibility can't be coached. Has a long way to go in terms of physical development and technique. Will be rooting for him, local kid with all the potential in the world. He's going to have to work for it though.

He's exactly what the staff want right. A guy with the size and agility. Needs the technique and coaching. Pretty sure I read that he boxed in his youth. Violent hands will come in handy.

Huge changes come early when they figure out what exactly they want him to do physical wise. As normal they will test him and figure a body fat percent to shoot for and what his weaknesses are. Is he flexible and quick and needs power or does he need explosive movement oriented weight room time. Each kid has their issues they can improve on.

Great anecdote in there about Fran’s focus on local guys. Also an assistant coach first met Shepherd in a barber shop. Love it.

Brown has made local recruiting more of a priority than his predecessor Dino Babers, multiple Section III coaches have said. He has taken Shepherd and the CBA trio to lunch at Varsity Pizza several times throughout the season. He attended the Northstars’ regular season matchup with the Brothers in September and was in the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday to catch CBA play in the state title game.

Huge upside with this kid for sure, going to need a couple years but the tools are all there if he's willing to work at it. Great type of kid to try and see if you can really develop for many reasons. Rooting for the kid for sure.
