OT-Keith Olbermann vs WFAN feud IS GETTING GREAT

Forget his politics. He's not doing that anymore.

Olberman basically created the SportsCenter anchor persona.

He is very sharp, very funny and very knowledgeable.

He's biting and probably a prima dona, but the industry recognizes his sheer talent.
Craig Kilborn, by himself at midnight...created the anchor persona.

olberman, had the smarts to bring it to 6pm.

hes horrible.

i hear his voice and i turn it off.

i havnt been able to watch that nbc sunday night football show since he came, and hes been gone for a bit....because im scared he will show up.

He is clearly an eccentric and obviously very difficult to work with - so far nobody has been able to do so.

But, as you say, he is an amazing writer and a very good performer.

Takes a lot of stones for that guy, or a complete lack of self awareness, to declare others on a night in/night out basis to be the "worst" of anything.

He's not doing his job if he's not divisive - and as seen in this thread - he's doing a good job.

I think most agree that Olbermann and Patrick made SportsCenter what it has become.

They were groundbreakers.

Kenny Mayne was funny and deadpan, but he didn't change the trajectory of the program - he didn't create a new TV sports form.

Where is Kenny these days?
I agree, they are all guilty.

KO and Francesca are both terrible. I would listen to KO for a bit longer than Francesca, but not by much.

KO is one of the few shows I dvr. Love that he is back on ESPN. Never watched his MSNBC show. It wasn't my cup of tea. Sports is where he belongs. The only guys worth listening to on WFAN are Beningo and Roberts. Sportscenter hasn't been the same since the end of the Big Show.

Kenny is still around, has a lot of videos on espn.com.

I bought his book "the incomplete inaccurate history of sports" a few years ago. it's hilarious lol

Three words: The Big Show.

The ESPN Anchor "persona" started w/ Chris "Boomer" Berman and his nicknames like, Andre "Bad Moon" Rison.
ESPN brass originally told Berman to knock it off and play it straight, but he refused. Viewers & pro players petitioned and told ESPN that they loved the nickname schtick, and the irreverent sports anchor was born.

Big Keith fan. He can get a little over the top sometimes but he's always entertaining. And his targets are far bigger jerks than he is.

Three words: The Big Show.
The big show was great, it was fun, it launched his career.

After that he became self obsessed obnoxious with por takes on things.

Nobody wants to watch or hear him anymore.

Ratings prove my point.

The new FOX SPORTS 1 Highlight show is much better than SportsCenter these days. Highlights, little humor (but not over the top) and analysis. Better overall product

I don't know.

All I know is that he keeps getting hired.

Olbermann has too much Dennis Miller in him. Big words, run on sentences, too interested in looking smart than sounding funny. When people try to be smart and funny at the same time, they end up being neither to me. Humor's subjective. once people start thinking they're important they stop being funny. (comedians that get applause over laughs have failed)

Okay, Millhouse I know that everybody you encounter is stupid, but this is one case where your target probably has more brain power than most folks you know - including you and me.

Like him or hate him, the guy is super intelligent.

He's also very funny as far as I'm concerned, but that part of it is in the ear of the listener.

Where in my post did i say or imply that Miller and Olbermann are unintelligent? I said they're too interested in looking smart than sounding funny. That doesn't mean they're not smart.

If you're going to bother responding to me, you should actually read the posts rather than just assume that I'm calling everyone stupid. Responding to posts you don't read is, well, kinda stupid.

cant believe people are arguing over talking heads on tv - reminds me of the pointless arguments about uniforms-

was a time you could get info from these type of guys- now its more about show boating than offering real info

Olbermann is an A-Hole, much in the mold of a Howard Cosell.
You love him or hate him, think he's brilliant or just FOS, but you'll still tune in.

Olberman was never on the 6 PM sportscenter. Patrick and Olberman were always the 11 PM.

The more important question is... how does this guy keeping get shows on tv? He's bad enough that even SNL did a skit making fun of him. They don't usually make fun of their own.

People talk about him. ESPN needed some pub to get the spotlight away from FS1.

Looking at the ratings of FS1..looks like he did his job so far...I'm sure he'll have a blow up and get kicked off the air soon enough.

Sorry.

But when I read your post, I noted your complaint that KO was "trying to be smart" and funny - implying I thought that he is not smart - just trying to be.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it would seem difficult or at least unfair to criticize a person for "trying to be smart" when the person is actually very smart, don't you think?

But, congratulations are in order.

You kept your streak intact.

You called me stupid in your responding post!

Well done, sir. Well done.
