I swear I am not trying to pull on any heart strings here but just looking for some sound advice and or a home for a little lady :).

Long story short after taking the wife out to coffee at Freedom Expresso we ended up taking a roundabout way home due to all the construction around that area. As we were coming down Fayette we started passing that grassy area with all that artistic stuff over by the railway tracks right before you hit tip hill. Normally we see a bunch of woodchucks who my wife loves to watch eat so were scoping it out at the end and we both see something moving near the brush and almost in unison say "what is that"?

The wife yells out "thats a dog" and has me turn around twice to try and find it again. After a few minutes she runs out and makes friends and brings back a Chihuahua/something mix that is skin and bones and covered in fleas. We run her up to my parents house and after a 20 min flea bath and 45 minute grooming session between my wife and mother we get her clean and pretty much flea free.

This dog is an absolute sweetheart has not made one noise since we took her in and allowed my wife and mother to clean her over several times. I am hoping to try and locate a home for her versus a shelter if at all possible. Unfortunately both myself and my parents each have 2 dogs each already and with them being miniature dachshunds a third dog just isn't an option.

If anyone has any advice or knows of anyone looking for a dog please let me know. I tried helping hounds and they were less then helpful unfortunately which was dissapointing to say the least. Will try and post some pics later tonight or tomorrow morning. I also apologize for saying long story short and then writing a novel.

You're a good dude.

I have a rescue Chihuahua that required a lot of attention and affection at first ( I think she had doggy PTSD) but is the best dog I ever had. I hope it works out!

That is awesome. I really wish we could keep her I can tell the wife is already getting attached but we just cant handle a third dog right now.

But, Jeremy, she's so small. She won't eat much. Since you already have two, a third won't be that much incremental trouble! I can't have a dog (because I'm never home), but I would be happy to pay for a vet visit /shots/whatever if you and Nell keep her.

Hey Joyce! The main issue besides the potential medical costs is that are two dachshunds struggle around other dogs and can be very territorial. Our black and white one Merlin saw her yesterday in Nell's arms and started spazzing to get to her (not in a bad way or trying to bite her). This morning he heard Nell talking to her in the basement (we have a little crate down there for her and he has been whining/moaning/scratching to get down to them, I have never seen him act like this.

In some partial good news a very good friends of ours are interested in taking her but they dont close on there house until the end of the month and are wary about the vet costs. I am hoping to speak with the ASPCA today to see if she can be brought in and given the appropriate medical treatment and evaluation and then see if our friends can adopt her at the end of the month. (There currently in a tiny apt with two cats). If I didnt already have my two dogs we would keep her in a second but with my two already a handful and her unknown medical needs (or she may already have) its very difficult for us.

Quick update we had her in the front yard today and she became a block celebrity with many neighbors coming to pet and fawn over her. No takers yet but a few people indicated they were going to spread the word and our elderly neighbor next door is canvassing the block for a home. She is also much more active today and actually growled for the first time and is now whining for the first time (just placed her back in the crate).

Unfortunately today's increased physical level has revealed an issue with her front left leg, not sure if it was displaced or dislocated somehow but something appears off. Were going to try the ASPCA this afternoon and will keep looking for a great home for her.

Let's pass the hat at the 'Nova tailgate to help out Jeremy and the missus if the little gal hasn't found a home by then!

By the way, Jeremy--since you rescued her on Fan Fest Saturday, maybe you can consider naming her Fanny?:D

I'm sure you've thought of this but, do you know it was an abandoned dog and that there isn't an owner looking for him? Maybe he has been missing for weeks thus the frail look? I don't even know how you go about finding the owner short of putting pics in the area.

The leg thing is a common problem with Chihuahuas. Mine "clicks" quite often. One theory is that the dog is so small and has very thin spindly legs unable to give the necessary support for a dog that is very active. Mine will jump on my lap and jump down whenever she pleases. They also love to burrow. Her favorite toy is a blanket that she builds a cave with.

Hopefully its just apart of her natural makeup and not a dislocation or healed fracture or something like that.

Good thought, based on her condition though Im leaning toward the possibility that she was abandoned but I guess you never know. We were at the ASPCA a little while ago and they had some missing photos but nothing that looked like her. I will try to check online.

* Third Update* Took her to the ASPCA earlier but was told that because she was found in the city they legally cannot take her in. She needs to go through the Syracuse animal control for 10 days after that she can be adopted/sent to a rescue. Syracuse animal control isn't open until Monday so we get another day at least with her.
