OT - Looking for Ticket Advice

I know we have some board members who work/have worked in the ticket business, so I'm hoping someone(s) can offer some advice.

We're going to visit some of my wife's family in Phoenix, AZ just after Christmas. We'll be arriving a day or 2 before the Fiesta Bowl, which is a CFP semifinal this year. Seeing as how this opportunity may never present itself again, I'm looking into 2 tickets to the game. My question is - do I buy sooner rather than later to get the best deal? I'm just looking to get into the stadium, and not for any special seats, as tickets are expensive enough as it is. Would appreciate any advice anyone can offer. Thanks!

If it were a normal bowl game I’d say to wait it out because there’d be a chance that a team that doesn’t travel well makes it. You’re out of luck in a semifinal with the traditional powers and their huge fan bases. Outside of waiting until the absolute last minute, I’d say you’re better off setting a price alert on Stubhub or SeatGeek and snagging a pair when they hit a price you’re comfortable with.

The prices tend to skyrocket when the actual teams get announced. I remember getting a decent deal on Final Four tickets in Atlanta because we were the first team to punch our ticket. gbo may have some insight (not sure if he’s traveled to any of the Clemson playoff games though).
