Interesting article by Tim Graham in the Buffalo News about the current battle between the new and old within the organization.

http://bills.buffalonews.com/2014/02/23/sources-disconnect-youngsters-lifers-bills-organization/

Marrone and Whaley -- unusual young guns compared to the Tom Modraks, Dick Jaurons and Chan Gaileys the Bills have hired in the past -- want to fix the team's this-is-the-way-we've-always-done-it culture.

But Marrone and Whaley haven't made as much headway as they'd like over the past year and have grown increasingly frustrated, sources tell me.

Marrone is certainly not a guy who likes to have outdated and stale mentalities prevent him from turning around a culture. Yet Ralph Wilson's cronies are seemingly here to stay. Has to be frustrating beyond belief for him.

I bet Jairus Byrd's contract situation has a lot to do with the issues going on right now. It's not a coincidence that the Bills have been historically bad for such a long stretch of time. When the football people can't make football decisions (like retaining their developed talent) then it's a recipe for disaster.

Apparently Ralph thought they were hiring another Chan Gailey / Dick Jauron yes man, but he was wrong. Should be interesting to see how this ends.

buffalo bills finding out that doug marrone is a whiny grouch. who gives a who the senior vp of communications is?

the bills suck because their qbs and coaches suck. they're all in on manuel, it will be more of the same.

So the GM barely has any say on what free agents the team goes after. What a mess. What is his job if the GM can't go after players.

I'm not surprised by this at all. Buffalo fans have suffered too long. They deserve some good vibes and maybe a playoff push.

If an organization is referring to people in their mid forties as youngsters or that is what they appear to be relatively speaking there is an issue. I honestly think this season could be Marrone's last if he doesn't show marked improvement, I don't think they will wait for year 3 as Marrone will grow increasingly more frustrated as will the Bills management.

The Bills need a better quarterback if they want to make the playoffs. I think last year's qb class was horrendous, not one was worthy of a first day draft pick IMO. I didn't think Manuel was great in college, why would he be great in the NFL? Overthinking nonsense

You can't turn around a franchise when old geezers who wouldn't be employed anywhere else are it up.

It's obvious Whaley and Marrone want to keep Byrd but the penny pinchers can't figure out how to allow it to happen. And people wonder why the Bills haven't won since Clinton was President and have a reputation for letting their good players leave.

You can blame Marrone and Manuel all you want but they weren't here from 2000 to 2012.

Manuel's play was average for a first-round QB starting as a rookie.

I'm assuming you also think your Dolphins need a QB.

i was pretty clear that i wasn't blaming marrone and manuel for the prior twelve years. i blamed sh!tty coaches and sh!tty qbs.

i got a kick out of the article. he's making excuses. manuel and tuel were their call

I didn't see any quotes from Marrone in the article so not sure how he's making excuses. Tim Graham has an axe to grind and has been stirring up trouble since he came back to TBN.

It remains to be seen what EJ and Tuel can do in the NFL. I honestly think both have a good chance to be good players. They are both raw but each have talent that could potentially be groomed into something special or at least solid.

oh come on. no one leaking that stuff is going to go on the record. but it's from marrone and whaley. and if you can't rule out tuel, you can't rule out anybody ever

Haha. Tuel definitely made some horrendous plays in his two appearances there is no denying that. However I really think he's got some skills to work with and made some good plays against KC. I'm not saying he is starter material but he could be a back up in the pros for a chunk of time.

EJ was hurt too much to make any sort of definitive conclusion. He showed some infamous flashes. We'll know after this season what he is.

As far as what's been leaked, Bills fans have felt this way about Ralph, Brandon, and Overdorf from the outside for years. It's no shock that guys like Marrone and Whaley would have the same interpretation of management from the inside. It's not an excuse. Unfortunately, it's reality.

EJ Manual needed to step up 2 times for Florida St in 2012 , against NCSU and Florida. Both times he failed. Every other game the enormous talent advantage of FSU made the games complete mismatches and any College level QB would have won those games and had huge statistics. He doesn't have the analytical ability to play chess against defensive coordinators in the NFL.

Funny how those were the only two games in his college career that he needed to "step up," and he lost the games all by himself. So despite his pages of accomplishments, he was 0-2 in "real" games. Interesting.

I'm sure you know all about his "analytical ability."

Tim Graham puts out more false articles then anyone else in the Buffalo media. He has been caught in several lies the latest one was Doug wanted Stevie traded. It was so far off base Doug called Stevie to tell him not to listen to the garbage.

I didn't say his college career. I said in 2012 when he a senior and they had a real chance to win a national championship. But hey , give him another year , I just don't see it . Most fans already have lost faith in the Bills long ago.

Manuel was playing with a bunch of underclassmen on the offensive side of the ball who were a year away from taking off. Yet they still finished in the Top 10 in offense.

I am shocked, SHOCKED, that Marrone took an apparent dream job and now appears to be somewhat disgruntled.
Yeah. When he sees a potential problem that can make winning more difficult he should just ignore it and pretend it doesn't exist.

Only on this board would Marrone be made out to be the odd duck of the confrontation. The Bills haven't made the playoffs in 14 years and apparently Marrone has identified some reasons or, in this case, some people that have contributed to the futility so he's calling for changes. The guy wants to win. I don't see what makes him out of line here?

russell wilson is ok but Seattle's senior vp of communications, now that guy is an mvp
Cute but I know you're smart enough to understand that the real issue has to do with who is making the ultimate decisions at OBD and how much power the Chief Financial Advisor has over personnel decisions.

The Bills have sucked as long as the Lions. Was Marriuchi a sh-tty coach? SF says no. Lions say yes. I assume his failures in Detroit are the same reasons for other failures. Upper Management. Now way both of our franchises can be so sh-tty every year unless there is a serious problem with upper management and there is. Yeah we've both had sh-tty coaches and sh-tty QBs but even a blind dog finds a bone once in a while. We have not. Upper management is destroying our teams.

millen and joey harrington stunk

it would be weird for marrone and whaley to blame upper management for who they choose to be GM

the bills go 6-10 every year because that's the type of qb play they get. if whaley is right about manuel, then it won't matter who the assistant to the regional manager is
