OT: Mike D'Antoni Resigns

Interesting post game interviews. On one hand Jared Jeffries knew ahead of time and was told personally by D'Antoni he was resigning. Then you have Melo/Amare/Chandler who found out after their naps when they saw the news. Chandler defending Melo. Amare talking about how, now the offense will flow through "me and Melo."

The team not only won but had 35 assists on 43 baskets tells you something about getting out from under a bad coach.

Melo has been given the keys to the kingdom. Its all on him now. This is officially his team. I laughed when Orlando offered Dwight executive decisions on the coach and GM, well the Knicks apparantly offered Melo that. Its time for #7 to put up or shut up. Lets hope he makes us proud!

This all being said. It makes sense when Amare says "Now the offense will run through Me and Melo". How the %$#$ did it not run through you two already!? This is why im glad D'Antoni is gone. Imagine Miami running an offense in which Chalmers and Mike Miller take more shots than Wade and Lebron...because that was NY's offense.

Carmelo was still taking more shots than anyone else on the team, over 3 per 36 minutes more. (Fun fact, #2 on the team in shots per minute; Toney Douglas. 32%, 16.3 shots per 36 minutes. ) Amare is second, though barely ahead of Lin. I just hope that doesn't mean Melo and Amare get tons of Iso's (the Joe Johnson offense, IOW). For his career, Melo takes 19.1 shots per 36 minutes. This year, he's at 19.2. So it's not like Melo wasn't getting his shots up; he was, they just aren't going in.

I think it was in the Howard Beck article yesterday, he mentioned how Melo was breaking off plays and trying to head into the mid post area when he should be spreading the floor out near the 3 point line. That might make sense froma strategy standpoint, but if you have Carmelo Anthony, he probably shouldn't be standing at the 3 point line like he is Steve Novak or something.

We'll see what happens. D'Antoni wasn't a good fit for this team, and if it comes down to the coach who has a few months left on his contract, or the s tar who has 4 and who you just traded like 6 guys to get, who do you think is going to win? Even before last night, the Knicks had baiscally an even scoring margin for the year, so they weren't as bad as the 18-24. Unless they go on a ridiculous run, they are going to be the 7th or 8th seed, at best, which means a first round exit.

I think we can beat the Heat or Bulls. Right now, yes first round exit. Lets see how they look at the end of the season. We have the talent to beat those teams, I truly believe that.

When he wants to, Melo is every bit as good as Lebron or Durant. I know the numbers don't bear fruit...but, he does everything Lebron can do and more on a basketball court. He impacts the game from every area, when he wants to. And he is much more clutch than Lebron, making the biggest shots at the biggest times. There is no reason they can't beat the Heat.

We're a million miles away from that. Anything is possible, but those are 2 of the 3 best teams in the league. We're...not. Chicago is more beatable, since they only have one incredible player, but they're really deep and are obviously really good. (Beat Miami last night without Rose).

At this point, I'd just take a playoff win. It's been 11 years.

Melo brings it against LBJ as well. The Heat dont look as invincible since the All Star break and if we can rebound better (recurring theme with my teams) I see no reason we cant beat Chicago in a series.

One of the keys will be to get D'antoni's favorite boy less playing time Fields who doesn't do any of the things a shooting guard should do well. He is a poor shooter, passer, and his handle is barely adequate, defense is fair what they say he does well is rebound. Playing him ahead of shumpert and JR smith was ludicrous. Lin backed by davis and shumpert and J R give you a very good backcourt Jeffries is one of their best defenders and missed 4 games some of those were close losses and they might have won. Stat, melo, chandler, novak, jeffries, harrellson, and walker when he comes back are very good with a lot of depth. The Knicks have had a lot of injuries early and now with the added depth in this contracted season should be able to keep their players fresh heading into the playoffs.
