Nebraska announces former Oregon St HC Mike Riley as its new HC.

My god Nebraska I feel for you. Riley is a solid HC but he is not that much of an upgrade from Bo Pelini.

That's a big hit for Oregon State.

Holy cow - I read where he was on the hot seat at Oregon State. I think he's a solid coach but I have a feeling the Big Red fanbase was hoping for a bigger name.

Nebraska fires a guy with 6 straight 9 win seasons for a guy with four 9 win seasons in 11 years. Don't tell me recruiting to Nebraska without having games against TX schools that much easier than recruiting to Oregon State.

Riley is a solid coach, but this guy is 61 years old and is losing his starting QB at Oregon State this year and only has 1 9 win season since 2008.

I wonder if Shafer was on Nebraska's radar?

I always thought Riley was a good coach but the fanbase around here was delusional, I have heard Tressel's name about 100 times this week and to fire a guy who won 9 games every season to bring in what feels like to me the Coach P of the Pac 12 (Won some big games, made a few big bowls but struggled at the end) is so damn funny.

I just found out Riley's buy out was only like 500K? How much was Saint Doug's at the end?

Scott Shafer?

Does Western Michigan have a HC job opening? If so I am scared about Shafer remaining here.

quick look at oregon state's QB stats - not so great recently. they throw a ton but they don't throw that well

I wonder if the new Oregon State HC will be interested in Dungey.

Maybe Western Michigan would be willing to cover the buy out for Syracuse?

Hmmm, middle of nowhere with humidity or middle of nowhere with wind and cold? I guess he prefers humidity.

If Bielema went to Nebraska from Arkansas, that would be a lateral move. It would be far easier to win in the B1G than the SEC, but still. Piggg Sooie.

It would be somewhat lateral, but I think it's more of a northern move, hence the cold.

I commented earlier this thread but I still can't believe this. I can't believe that Nebraska hired a coach that is under 500 in his career in the Pac 12. Like I said earlier, I think Riley is a solid coach, but I just expected something much more. I really have to wonder what the Nebraska fanbase thinks about this. I think I can imagine.

Yeah I'm really floored by this one. Granted Pellini has some behavioral quirks but the guy wins 9 games every year. But then again, they did this to Frank Solich too.

I get that Nebraska wants to be a national title contender, but how is Riley the guy that's going to get them there? It's not like they ditched Pellini for Saban or Urban Meyer or someone with that pedigree.

They were impressed by his 14-34 NFL head coaching record.
