OT - My dinner with President Obama

Yes you read that correctly. Yesterday I was privileged to spend about 45 minutes conversing with the President of the USA. How did this happen? I sent $5 to the DSCC and from25,000 entries was one of two winners. The president could not have been more down to earth or friendlier. He had brief bios of the four of us, asked us questions and answered ours. There were so many highlights it's hard to know where to begin, but one that stands out was his first night in NYC, when his sublet was unavailable and he couldn't reach a friend, and slept in the alley.

There are no selfies, but there was an official photographer, so at some point I should have pictures to share. I did get two or three hugs, as did the other women, and the man, a veteran, was handed a special commemorative coin. Suffice it to say it was the most outstanding day of my life and is unlikely to be topped.

That is ridiculously amazing.

I think it would be pretty amazing to have a couple of beers with any of BO, W, or Clinton. All 3 would be a lot of fun to hang with.

Were there things you were told not to discuss?

What questions did you ask him? What were his answers?

Let's say he becomes Head Coach Barack Obama. Do you think he would punt on 4th and 2?

They did not tell us what to ask or not ask, but he had bios of us so he started by asking is questions. I really didn't get to speak much cause the guy there kept asking him questions and I couldn't just say, shut up and let the rest of us talk too! But I did ask him how he keeps his composure when surrounded by such inanity. He replied some of it is just his temperament, and growing up in the mellow environment of Hawaii. (He joked his mellowness began in his mom's womb!). Also he's learned through experience just not to take some things to heart. And regular exercise also helps.

Ha ha I think he'd go for it on 4&2!

Ornithology is the study of BIRDS! Entomology is the study of insects.
CTO... I know that well. The deliberate misuse of terms was the joke, and I tried to hammer it home with the spiders and scorpions in parens and double parens... well, you get the point.

Next time I'll add a "smiley" icon so folks get a laugh out of my rather misdirected inverted malapropism. :)

Everyone here has been very kind and supportive, but just in case there is anyone who doubts this is true, there's a story in the Washington Times about the dinner.

Do you live in or near NYC Cuse troop? My comedy guru, Eric Kornfeld, has started teaching again. He's a superb teacher who writes for Bette. Midler and Rosie odonnell among others. I'd recommend that anyone who dreams of doing stand up take a class and get on that stage in front of people at least once. Eric is the man to teach you how. His favorite thing to say to me all those years ago was "Nice concept. Now how about sticking a few fu#%ing jokes in?" Harsh? Maybe. But I learned how to write jokes WITH punch lines.

I live just outside of NYC... Well, just outside of Russia to be more exact. One of these days I'll make it back to the east coast. Every time I try tho, Alaska gives me more reasons to stay.

Ok since I have had a request for the joke, here it is: According to the NY Mets announcers, Alex Rodriguez is getting an MBA. What is that, a Masters of Bullshit Arts?

That is pretty awesome. Regardless of political beliefs, I hold the office in such high regard that I would enjoy a meal with any president. Congrats.

I don't have stand up on you tube as it's too easy to steal jokes from there, but look under Andrea Abrahams and you will find some examples of my acting work. Also a four part series called It's Still Me, which consists of four scenes from a feature length screenplay I wrote. I am in the first one, the fat loud mouthed Christine. There is also a 35 second montage of my headshots with curlers that the photographer kindly put together, and a rather long, maybe 9 minute one of acting scenes, the latter of which is a performance art piece I did when that was in vogue in the 90s. Also put something called Vagornaments in the search engine and watch it. It was written and directed by James Murray AKA Murr of impractical jokers fame. I only have one line but it's a good one! Thanks for asking.

Also if anyone wants to know the joke I would have told the president I will make an exception to my no jokes off stage rule.

When he gets pi$$ed at Biden, does he make him go watch the Hoyas?

Linda ... Andrea was here long before you were. She was one of the first folks here ... 14 or 15 years ago.

As in AndreaCG? Dang, that is a long time ago. I thought we'd lost her. Glad we didn't!

Yes and thank you stuttree. I seldom post because, when it comes to sports knowledge, I am woefully deficient compared to nearly all of you and I've embarrassed myself in the past. But I love reading everyone's viewpoint. Well, almost everybody.

Andrea, I am also often deficient in my knowledge compared to those on this board. But at the same time I know more than many females. It is about the love of SU sports. There are also so many topics that I feel my common sense or women's intuition or other types of knowledge add to the conversation. You should post more often. No one has ever said anything really offensive to me if I say something that lacks knowledge.

Bumping this thread since it's the second anniversary of my dinner with POTUS.

And perhaps not coincidentally, it's the 81st anniversary of my mom's birth. She died in 2011 and positively adored President Obama.
Oh BTW it's also the 81st anniversary of the utterly fabulous Ms Julie Andrews' birth. She got the voice and talent, but Ma was no slouch otherwise.

Very cool. Congratulations. Regardless of political affiliation, the President is the President. A terrific honor and a family story for generations, particularly this President and his historical social significance.
