I always got the onion for some reason. Don't get the onions.I would live there too, if only for the Gray's Papaya across the street.

Yeah this kid threatened to kill the police and Kelly actually helped get a grad assistant killed and helped a rape victim towards suicide. I hear he is making this kid captain.
TerryD said:Lizzy Seeberg was not raped. She didn't even allege that she was. Kelly didn't "help her towards suicide". Declan Sullivan died in a workplace accident. Other than that, you have all your facts right. My bet is that Residential Life will expel him from ND soon.
Workplace accident where the coach told him to go up into a scissorlift in winds that exceeded the maximum recommended windspeed at the time. Not really an accident but ok.Lizzy Seeberg was not raped. She didn't even allege that she was. Kelly didn't "help her towards suicide".

Define the word "directly".Workplace accident where the coach was directly responsible.
He'll have to sit out the 1st half of their opener.
I think that SU is actually pretty good at these things relatively speaking. That said, so is ND. I made the same argument a couple of weeks ago about Golson and Grant. We are talking about the same program that kicked it's starting QB off the team the season after he led them to a national title game appearance right? And the same university that crushed it's hoops season by suspending it's best player for academic stuff for the season, right?
And, last I checked, SU is still the same university that pretended to know nothing about it's starting point guard shoplifting and played a bunch of players who got arrested in a bowl game a week later, right?
I get that people hate notre dame, but they are one of the few universities that at least pretends to punish athletes for their misdeeds. What are the odds that any major college football program -- SU included, though 'major' is a bit of stretch given our accomplishments the past 15 years -- would suspend it's starting QB for cheating for an entire season immediately following a national title game appearance? I mean, it's literally probably like 0.8%.

That and the obnoxious subway alumni who bandwagon. I met several of these at this past year's Pinstripe Bowl.Yeah, I don't know that any big time athletics university is *really* good at actually holding these guys accountable, but relative to most universities SU is probably pretty solid and ND is about as good as it gets. There may be some that are better but not many, particularly when you take into account that ND athletes actually have to meet the same curriculum requirements as the rest of the students. Now, does ND rub people the wrong way from a "holier than thou" perspective? Yeah. Do they have a bunch of obnoxious alumni? I guess. But I never quite understand the blind hatred. I guess it's because ND should join a conference for some reason even though they don't need to, but it's just strange IMO.

Never said he was the worst person ever in my eyes, I just don't like the way they run their athletic program up there. It's not as cultish as State Penn but it's pretty close. It was a tragic accident that I'm sure Kelly feels miserable about. Seriously -- awful judgment and a perfect example of how absurd sports have gotten, that having a POS piece of video from a practice is enough to risk a kid's life. That said, it's pretty clearly an accident and tragic error in judgment. If that makes Kelly the worst person in the world in your eyes, OK, but I really don't think he intentionally rationalized it by saying, "Well, it's ridiculously windy, but who gives a -k about declan sullivan. NEXT MAN UP!"

It was a remarkable act of transparency by the agency, which has imposed a $77,500 fine on the university -- the largest levied against an school in the state in at least five years. Sullivan, a 20-year-old videographer from north suburban Long Grove died on Oct. 27 after the lift he was recording from was blown over by strong winds during football practice. He had voiced his objections about filming outside to a staffer shortly before going onto the practice field, records show." http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-indiana-osha-documents-20113017,0,7013639.htmlpage Kelly did not personally tell Declan to go up into the scissorlift. I haven't seen anything that indicates that Kelly was even aware that he was up there. Was it negligence by the staffer, at least? Yes. Did Kelly have any personal involvement? Not that I have seen.
This thread is hysterical.
ALL major college athletics programs, ALL, are some degree of scummy, even dear ol' SU.
Or did we not allow more than one woman beater to play hoops in the recent past?
