By asking about Webber's relationship with Jalen Rose, which he obviously knew was a touchy subject. Loved seeing this dork start stammering and backtracking, and eventually stunned into silence when Webber sarcastically replied to his "part of doing this job" comment. LOL.

"Orange enemy Gottlieb:" This board is paranoid. So is every other sports board I have ever visited.

Gottlieb's a dork. He was one of the biggest torchbearers for the stupid "they don't play anybody OOC, they don't leave the state of NY until_______" garbage that gets said in some form every single season now.

They had a point. Now we are playing Georgetown, St. John's, and/or Villanova as part of our OOC schedule. That's much improved.

No, not usually. When we'd beat good teams at the Garden, it was a slimy, sneaky way to make a "point" with that "outside of NY" garbage playing on most people's stupidity when it comes to geography and thinking New York State = NYC.

Or when they'd pull the "haven't left NY except for________(making big exceptions for wins in Florida or Kansas, or wherever". Or the year when they tried to make it like Atlantic City, NJ is right down the road from Syracuse.

We're playing the 3 schools you named because of a unique situation where we just left the Big East and our rivalries with them.

Boeheim ripped Gottlieb too. No need to act like this was all imaginary. The thing is, he doesn't do it to only Syracuse. But he's certainly made himself an enemy of the Orange.

You have a point. I always thought it was funny that commentators criticized SU for not crossing state lines. When they took the bus to NYC, did the SU team bus avoid going through New Jersey in order to save their legs?

Obviously, ESPN had a story line about SI staying at home during the OOC, and it was lazy. We won in KC, Missouri, against KU which was called a neutral court. We won in St. Pete against Florida the same way. But, in fact, our OOC schedule has had a lot of cupcakes in it. I like it now that we are playing a stronger OOC schedule. I like it that we are cultivating our old Big East rivalries, and I hope we do it more.

I mostly agree with this, except for the "cupcakes" thing. I think our overall schedules were generally very good.

I am glad we are playing our old rivals instead of schools like Drexel, Wichita St, Rhode Island, Cleveland St, etc...schools that most people don't realize when they have good teams, but they can actually beat you.

The funny thing is some of those schools may actually have fielded better teams when we played them than the the teams we'll face when we play Georgetown, St. John's et al., but a name brand is a name brand.

He may be a dork but I think his analysis is usually spot on. He's good with X's and O's critiquing as well.

He knows the game and can be pretty good when he's in that mode... but he likes to be a . . . . -stirrer and when he gets in that mode he says some ridiculous things.

True. Usually fans of the teams/coaches he is jabbing at just can't handle it. He's right most of the time.

Claim MSG as a second home floor, proclaim Syracuse as the "college team" of NYC

Get collective sandinthevaginitis when the media more or less points it out.

We have a big and loyal fan base. We've practically taken over Rutgers, Georgetown, even NC State's courts. It's a dumb, dishonest non-point and a horrible attempt to discredit a basketball team.

"They had fans there, so it's not that good of a win." Is that the point?

My point is that if your going to beat your chest about MSG being a "home court," don't whine when the media points out that same.

Cool, how about Atlantic City? That happened.

Responding to this, Doug is in the wrong and is disingenuous with how he handles it after the fact. After Webber hangs up, he is embarrassed and tries to cover by getting his lackey to say what he did was ok, "all I did was ask the question." But he is leaving out that the interviews are pre-arranged. You book the appearance with both parties knowing what will be talked about and at least tacitly what the boundaries are. So DG's people get Webber on the show to talk, apparently about a class he is teaching at WFU, and he blind sides him with this very touchy topic. Webber had every right to be upset and annoyed with that and I think he handled himself great. Doug got very butt-hurt and created a very false argument to bully his lackey into saying he was in the right (funny aside is that the lackey didn't even go along with it).

Chris Webber, the guy benefited from a highly corrupt college program and never had to pay the price (or taxes) for his big financial payoffs and willing participation in it.

Then he ruins an NBA contender situation at Golden State with his "I'm a man" whining.

I have 4 times more respect for Doug than I do "I'm a man", and I don't hold Doug in high regard.

I'd say the program benefitted from him more than he benefitted from the program.

I really couldn't care less that he took the money. I don't agree with how he handled the fallout from it though, and I agree that he was a clown early in his NBA career (though Golden State was nowhere near a contender, but was a talented and fun to watch team). If I remember, Webber not wanting to play center was a big part of it. And while he came off as a baby, he was right because in that era of the NBA you weren't going to win with small ball. Ironically, that Warriors team probably would be a contender in today's NBA.

Regardless, the question about Rose was awkward and came completely out of nowhere and Doug was just hoping he'd rip Rose. Poor job by Gottlieb.

Yeah, it was asked in very awkward fashion. 'Where are you with Jalen?' Hard not to be take. Back a bit if you're not expecting it. I'd also argue that for actual sports fans -- that is people who actually care about sports and not pointless media banter about deflategate -- there really isn't that much interest in this. Rose and Webber made up? Fine. Rose and Webber are still on the outs? Ok. Whatever.

But the gottlieb-SU thing is about as pathetic as this board gets -- which is saying something.

They were right?

You need this in your life...

He got $200K which makes him one of the most benefited college basketball players. ever.

I followed Golden State back then, we had Billy Owens (before injury), Chris Mullins, and others. The team had a lot of promise, and it was thought they could win a couple rounds in the playoffs.

Golden State brought Rony Seikaly in the second year to play center, but it was too late for "I'm a man".

His reward was wasting most of his career in Sacramento, which he richly deserved.

I'd say the program benefitted from him more than he benefitted from the program.

200K? What did Michigan make off of him by selling #4 jerseys(Probably 75%the Michigan fans at the final four in Atlanta had either#4 or #5 jerseys on, 20 years later) and those yellow shorts that everyone wanted because of him back then? What did they make off their Nike deal, because everyone wanted the Nike's that the Fab Five was wearing in the games? Never mind the back to back NC game appearances.

The Fab Five was the biggest thing that ever happened to Michigan basketball.

But still part of NY state after NYS annexed Penn, Maryland and DC several years ago.
