OT - Orange enemy Gottlieb pisses off Webber

But still part of NY state after NYS annexed Penn, Maryland and DC several years ago.

Yup. I mean, if Atlantic City is right down the road(a point that was actually supported by that docsu guy that irrationally hates SU fans), then those places are all fair game too.

YOU GOT ME :mad::(couchburn

Chris Webber, the guy benefited from a highly corrupt college program and never had to pay the price (or taxes) for his big financial payoffs and willing participation in it.

Then he ruins an NBA contender situation at Golden State with his "I'm a man" . . . . . whining.

I have 4 times more respect for Doug than I do "I'm a man", and I don't hold Doug in high regard.

As a Laker fan I loved watching Webber run away from the ball in crunch time.

That is absolutely false.

Not to mention the better team lost due to probably the biggest corruption in the history of sports. If you can the Lakers won fair and square and game 6 was called with no bias you're insane.

They had a point. Now we are playing Georgetown, St. John's, and/or Villanova as part of our OOC schedule. That's much improved.
"They" being the ones that had no idea how good some of the OOC teams we played actually were.

Our OOC schedule before joining the ACC was absurdly bad, we rarely played a ranked team, my guess without looking was probably 1 or 2 ranked teams tops hence our bad reputation of having a bad OOC schedule.

Our OOC was super tuff because one time we played Kansas like 45 minutes from Lawrence.

I don't know why some fans can't just own it. It used to be mediocre at best. Now it's a lot better. Good for us.

Cornell, Colgate --some of these are politically wise, (I think I read here a while back that some funds provided for the university required that Syracuse schedule some in-state schools --someone who knows more than I do may want to affirm or correct that statement) and I have no trouble with the team playing a few cupcakes and giving the bench some play. But apart from the silly argument that Syracuse doesn't leave the state, our scheduling has left us open to criticisms of a soft schedule. Thankfully, that is no longer the case.

In December of 1995, we went out to Tucson and beat Arizona before going on to Hawaii. That was a great win, but it was more than that. It was a springboard. The team had to have confidence going into the big tourney that they could win some games and beat some really good teams. We should play games that have the potential of creating that mindset.

This one of those situations where each side has an argument. Yes we play a lot at home in the fall -- so what. Other BB powers do the same thing. We have a great facility. We benefit financially (and politically, as Delmar points out) from playing at home against traditional in-state rivals, and (probably most importantly) we don't need to travel extensively in November/December because - at least in the last 10 years or so - many of the MM's we play are tough teams and we usually play one or two top 20/marquis teams OOC.

JB is as sick of the 'cupcake' argument as I am. As he often has to repeat, we play SOME easier teams, but many of the MM's we schedule in the fall are very good teams. If you look back over the years, we have struggled to win many of those games in years when we weren't top 10. So I get the criticism that we "don't leave the state" (although that's often debatable). But those claiming we play 'cupcakes' don't know how good some of our MM opponents are. Cleveland State is the classic example .. but there are many others. I remember playing Cornell when it was an NCAA team and I think we were lucky to win by 5.
