with this Jeremy Lin character. Two games in a row now. Is he for real or a pretender...

Gotta love it. Here's for routing for the underdog, and a really good kid to boot

He's perfect for D'Antonio's system, especially with Melo and Amare absent. You put Lin on the Celtics or the Lakers and who knows how he performs. I like what D'Antonio said about him last night though; he's not going to get dumber, or slower, or forget how to play the pg position. So is he a real NBA player? In the right system absolutely.

Plus he dunked the ball, so he definitely knows how to play in the NBA.

The postgame for the Knicks last night was dead on. They said that maybe his shots wont fall every game like they are now, but hes not going to lose his bball smarts, his handle, his quickness, his defense, and his vision. The kid is for real. Hes started 3 games and dominated every game. Utah isnt horrible and he destroyed them. The Nets are horrible but he went head to head with Deron Williams and got the best of D-Will. The Wizards are also terrible but he went up against John Wall and put up a double double to match Wall's 29 and 6. Also dont forget that he played 6/7 minutes against Boston and was a beast during his time in that game as well, unfortunately D'Antoni went back to TD in the second half and we promptly lost the lead and lost the game.

Lin is for real. Love the kid!

Man I don't know what to think about all of this. Would love for the Knicks to have found a diamond in the rough but 3 games is such a small sample size. Thought Landry Fields was the 2nd coming after 20 games last season and he's fallen back to earth since. Eventually teams will catch up to players who don't have superstar talent. Don't see any reason yet why Lin will be an exception.

On another note, Lin's emergence kills any chance of the Knicks trading for Jonny Flynn on March 1st like was rumored last week in the below. Where does Flynn end up now? Lakers?

I dont think Lin's emergence kills the Flynn deal. We still need a backup pg. The reason the knicks wanted Flynn is because Baron had another setback. Maybe it makes it less of a necessity but I still think the Knicks would send Balk and Bibby to Houston if Houston was willing to take it. Sidenote: What is Houston's deal, hes there 3rd pg who never plays yet they turned down both the Knicks and Lakers offers?

All true but my post was based on Baron being the starter and Lin getting the backup minutes. I have no idea about the severity of Baron's recent setback. I just presumed it was minor.

He's easily been one of the best finishers in the lane this season...even if it has been in the last 3 games. He just makes buckets

I'm guessing somewhere else where the team doesn't really want him and won't use him. He's no longer considered an NBA rotation guy. He's just going to sit on a bench until his contract is up.

I was at the Wizards' game last night. I'm not a big Knicks or Wizards fan but I couldn't help cheering Lin on. The kid is a baller and a lot of fun to watch. The place went nuts on his tomahawk slam. He made the Wizards D look absolutely stupid all night. If he gets a jump shot, look out!

That's not entirely true since his contract is up this year anyway as Houston declined the team option. There are still people who think getting Flynn into the right system will work. The success of players like Lin does wonders for Jonny long-term.

See, the thing is...good players generally just play well, wherever they are put. Guys dont choose where they get drafted. Ricky Rubio stepped onto an awful Minnesota team and they magically got better with him at point guard. Good players are good players.

Mike D'Antoni had a good line about "systems"... "The players are the system...there is no system. There is no substitute for good players. Thats the system"

Anyone remember Bobby Sura? This hoopla reminds me of that string of three games and the disallowed triple double. I like Lin and it's been a fun story, but the fact that he already has his own Linsanity T-Shirt is hilarious.

sure, I remember Bob Sura, the greatest player to ever come out of the Scranton area . . .

EXACTLY...like Chauncey Billips in Boston under Pitino...then in Denver and Minnesota..then when he went to a new system in Detroit.

Oh wait.

Yes, that is certainly the rule..and not the exception. Riiiiight.

I'm not trying to say that Flynn is a potential all-star or anything. His PER is one of the worst in the league. But I do believe it's way too early to give up on him. Can you honestly say that Jonny wouldn't both improve as a player and also help a team like the Lakers?

Your point about Rubio is invalid as Ricky has replaced Luke Ridnour not Flynn. Flynn clearly was not the same player after the hip injury as Rambis seemed to like him as a rookie.

Billups is the prime example of this but there are many others. One great one is ironically the person mainly responsible for Jonny's limited minutes. Kyle Lowry was a 1st round pick in 2006 and did absolutely nothing in Memphis or Houston while under Rick Adelman. Now he is having an All-Star season under McHale! Did Lowry just magically become a good player? No. More likely his kill set just meshs better with McHale than prior coaches. Tell me how you already know this won't be the case for Flynn.

If I had to bet on whether Lin will be a good point guard or a flash in the pan, I think I would bet on him being a good point guard. You can see he's got the skills. Also he has 2 monster pick n roll guys in Amare and Chandler. Hopefully Melo can relax now and do his thing. Novak's development is huge for this team. Jeff Van Gundy said in his opinion Novak is the best pure shooter in basketball. Lin looks legit and I can't wait to see him go up against the Lakers tomorrow night. I hope they think they can stop him with Derek Fisher because Lin will tear him apart.

I hope you are right sir, but I see there being limited seats in a crowded landscape. Jonny can only play point guard and he hasn't done it well yet. His size limits how many chances he will get, imo. If he were built like Chauncy Billups..or could penetrate like Lowry...I'd have more faith on him getting more good chances to excel. Even if Jonny becomes an average offensive point guard, he'll always be a defensive liability.

You can use the players who have started badly and then become good players and use it as a reason to say anyone can be good eventually. Fact of the matter is Jonny hasn't been close to an NBA player since his rookie year. In Billups first few years, he had PER's around 13 or so. Jonny had a 13 as a rookie, and the last 2 years its 7 and 9. (Granted, he has barely played this year). In Lowry's rookie year he barely played, but when he did, he played well (18 PER). The next season he started all 82 games with a PER of 14.

It's not time to give up on Jonny yet, but he's fighting an uphill battle.
