Found this interesting. That Rutgers has lost $115 mill in 5 years on its football program

Football beats grades every time
The University of Maryland is pulling a Rutgers. It’s dropping eight team sports, including swimming, cross country and tennis — teams that regularly produced high graduation rates — in order to save money so it can be spent on basketball and football, teams that regularly produce miserable graduation rates.

Rutgers, a N.J. state university, did similarly, dropping sports that produced genuine student-athletes, while its football program, between 2005-10, lost $115 million and head coach Greg Schiano’s deal was sweetened to be worth nearly $3 million per year.

So what that Rutgers academic departments and students are suffering mightily from cut-backs. Have you seen the varsity weight room and the athletes’ TV lounges? Wow!

NJ Taxpayers must be estatic. Christie must be a Season ticket holder :rolling: Oh why am I laughing Rutgers/Giants/Jets are part of NY state right..:rolling:

Great news for the Big East too. Eventually it will be a conference of convenience for fb and bb only. You have to figure Notre Dame will not like the fact that they are losing a place to park their minor sports.

One of the great advantages of going to the ACC is no more Rutgers. No more Rutgers Al. No more Arizona Scout. No more RUUU or whatever.

Stuck in C-USA 2, Rutgers appeal to the average New Jerseyan --- who only cares about "The Big Time" --- will degrade continually down to the 20K fans they had prior to 2003. If you think their finances are bad now, just wait a couple years.

BE will eventually be a basketball only confrence, and a pretty good one.

Supposedly they are sitting on an invite to the Big 12. Can't see how that is going to increase their bottom line though. In fact the expanded format of the Big East won't help either when you consider the travel costs involved.

Within a few years the Big East won't even have a football conference. My prediction. With the new BCS set-up it gives no reason for schools like Boise, SMU, and Houston to join, what do they gain except higher travel costs?! So now you are left with 5 football schools, crappy bowl-tie'ins, no BCS money or major bowl money coming in. USF, Rutgers, L'ville, UCONN, and Cincy will have to move their football programs to other minor conferences (C-USA, MAC...etc). And that's it.
