He talks with teams every year and never leaves. Greg Marshall better get his butt out of Alabama and off to Texas ASAP.
I guess he'll bide his time until the Wisconsin or UNC job opens...and take UT millions for a few years. He has never talked with a school like Texas before, would be very t0ugh to pass up.
richmondcuse03 said:I would be shocked if he went to Texas. Shaka can have his pick of much better jobs. Plus he is starting to recruit top 20 classes at VCU -- he can easily turn that into a small powerhouse...they are building a $25M practice facility and he got his assistants all more money last year and better perks for the players (chartered planes for away games, etc.). His wife apparently loves the Richmond area and he has made comments that he will do what's right for his family first. There's something to be said for having stability -- he can be a lifer and paid very well at a job like that -- why risk it to go to Texas where the AD has proven to be an ass to his last basketball coach?
Texas is a top 15 job he smart if he takes that. Smart can win a NC at Texas. They gave Barnes 17 years and he only had 1 Final Four. He will get a boatload of money at a FB school and can build a contender with kids all from Texas.
Best college basketball jobs in the nation Arizona, Kansas, Texas, Kentucky, Florida, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Louisville, North Carolina, Duke, Syracuse. Shaka Smart got one of them and he will get paid.
Yes he is. In fact, I think Ainge has had to readjust some of his thinking because Stevens keeps doing better than he expected no matter who he trades away.
Okay so does Grant end up back at VCU??? Might be a good situation for him and VCU.
official now

Shaka Smart has accepted the Texas job, sources told ESPN.

Texas as a state is a flat out monster of hoops talent. Shaka will recruit as well or better than Barnes, and coach much better. Not happy about it, but get used to Texas in a lot of Sweet16's and beyond over the next 10 years.
Also, how many athletic programs can 100% accurately brag to recruits that our coaches are strong and smart!
That's really too bad. I'm a big fan of Shaka Smart, and I'm sorry to see him end up at UT. He'll do very well there, with the recruiting clout he'll have and the exciting style of play he employs.
Great move by Texas. Smart will elevated that program. Scary combination of coaching, style, recruiting opportunities, and re$ources.
I would have been thrilled to have Smart here as JB's successor if Hop moved on.

No disrespect to Mike Hopkins, but I feel exactly the same way. That style of play would pack 'em into the Dome--no doubt in my mind.
Just from what little I've heard of Mike's philosophy, it sounds like he might agree with that style.
I don't think 40 minutes of pressure is necessarily a good thing, but I'd love to just come out in a press against Duke or Louisville. I think Mike will make us less predictable.
