I think most guys are either offensive guys (Monta Ellis, Carmelo, Dirk, AI) or defensive guys (Bowen, Ben Wallace, Artest). So at least for me, when I refer to "D'Antoni's system", I am talking about pace, on-court philosophy, and player acquisition.
