OT - Strength Coach Salaries

Makes some sense. These guys are more important to your success than some of the position coaches. position coaches are usually only paid a lot if they are elite recruiters. The guys that aren't elite recruiters aren't worth what a top S&C coach is.

Plus they spend more time with the athletes than the position coaches. Most of the summer and spring is run by the Strength guys. You need them to really have programs in place for each player that maximizes their abilities in the few hours the coaches get on the practice fields.

Good point

We've got one of the best IMO. Extends beyond Edinger to the entire staff he's brought on. Guys have done an amazing job. Just look at some of the before and after photos. Then add the injury rate, way down under this staff. Oline has gone two seasons without a major injury. That's huge. Show them the money, they've earned it.

Our S&C coach is more than just that. He's always next to DFB on the sidelines. That right there should tell you he's more engaged in what's going on.
One of the first things our new AD did was to hire the full allowable slate of S&C coaches (5?) for football. You’re not going anywhere without them.

The S&C staff are usually the “Stay Back” coaches keeping everyone away from the sideline buffer zone.

Agree we have a good one and as others have alluded not only do they spend a lot of time with the guys its a year round job keeping all types of weight/strength/conditioning/agility programs in place

My friend's husband is a strength coach and just got scooped up for a 6 figure job after interning at Alabama for less than a season. If you make connections with the right people, then you can make out pretty good.

I believe Edinger also has assistant HC as part of his title if i'm not wrong.

These guys are extremely important. They probably spend the most time with the athletes. When the coaches can't have practice during the off seasons it's the strength coaches that are with them. They are huge part in growing the culture around the team. Outside of HC and OC/DC, they are probably the most important part of the team.

Yea, but he is Dino's bouncer. EVERY head coach has a goon by his side. I love and value what S&C coaches do but the whole goon by their side thing is a bit cheesy. Started in ghe NFL about 10 years ago. Now, these head coaches roll like rock stars. Run on and off the field with these guys, they are in charge of the coaches "get back" in case they fly on the field over a call. Its all outrageous though, come on , over kill.

ALMOST as cheesy and dumb as coaches running on AND off the field with state police escorts. Come on, gimme a break. They are fb coaches, not high ranking politicians or military. Its a fb game and sooooooo cheesy. Those clowns don't even have jurisdiction...lol.

I honestly don't know what to say to this post...

Give me a few hours to figure out how ridiculous and uninformed this post is. I will get back to you.

He’s one of the assistant ADs, technically speaking.

Yeah Edinger is amazing. From my understanding, yes, S&C coach spends THE most amount of time with the players. At least at USC. Does he work with the other teams? Ivan Lewis is problably going to be the next guy canned at USC. He has been under fire big time. The players look so soft and physically outclassed by Texas and ND for instance. He has to take care of the other teams as well from baseball to women’s volleyball which seems like WAY too difficult a load to handle.

As I recall there was some consternation when early on it was perceived Edinger was usurping SC Hicks. I guess they shifted Hicks to the non-football side and Dino got his right hand man. Works for me, and the team apparently.

According to ISH, he got his "goon". From what I have seen, he is one of the best S&C guys in the country.

Well worth it. Edinger is worth his weight in gold. The man knows how to transform these kids and turn them into conditioned monsters.

The bigger thing is the lack of major injuries under his tutelege. That is often not talked about, but something that I have noticed quite a bit with our new S&C regime.

Yes, teams use "get back" coaches to make sure people don't go on the field that don't belong, but that is more often for players than coaches. I don't think we have any idiot coaches that constantly wander forward onto the field with a guy having to tug them back by their pants and Dino definitely doesn't need Edinger for that. He has been integral with physically transforming this team and establishing the culture of discipline and toughness that has contributed to our growing success. I'm sure his martial arts background has helped with that.

He is anything but a "goon."

As far as the police escorts go, have you seen the idiot fans that sometimes make their way onto the field after a game? Coaches certainly need some protection from some of these drunk delusional morons.

the weekend of the bc game we had one of the players family members stay with us. The players girlfriend came with them and she is on the rowing team. After talking to her about rowing at Syracuse and things I asked about coach hicks. I see him at the games some times and in the Manley workout area. She said he only trains the tennis team now. The other sports all have dedicated strength coaches. She said she missed him and loved all the weight lifting they did with him. She was shocked when I mentioned I was glad he wasn’t handling football anymore. He is a great guy but his training methods are way out of date. The new staff is miles ahead.
