OT: Taconic State Pkwy

Cross Bronx or the Hutch does it for me. One of my big fears in life is breaking down on the Cross Bronx.

I was with my buddy in his F350 work truck on the cross bronx and the tailgate fell off.

We kept on driving.

That road is like running a gauntlet of 2x4's swung by lineman. Or being on a wooden roller coaster. Or getting in a bar fight. It is not very suspension friendly.

The Taconic is crazy. BUT, you folks don't drive in LA do you? Gotta love it when everyone dives in a foot from your bumper at 75mph.

You get more courtesy from NYC cabbies then from a Brentwood soccer Mom in her SUV - which of course does not fit the lanes on Sunset

LOL. This is so true. I've learned NOT to signal because then they will speed up to cut you off.

I drove on this road for the first time in my life this past weekend to attend a wedding near Poughkeepsie.

Is it just me, or is this one of the most unsafe highways in America? The fact that it's windy, hilly, unlit and heavily trafficked is bad enough, but what amazes me is that in many spots instead of merging on-ramps, there are intersecting stop signs where cars just pull out into 60-65 mph traffic (some of which are around bends/blind spots).
Try the Apache Trail in the winter . Thats AZ . #88 . Those 90 year olds in Winabagos are the bomb .

Sawmill takes the cake for me. I used to travel the Merritt, Hutch, and Taconic all the time. I lost a side view mirror on the Sawmill one time. It feels like you are traveling in a bike lane.
sawmill right by my school... hate saw mill..

The highway from Sedona, AZ to Prescott is beautiful but similar to the Taconic, built during the time when Don Draper took the Cadillac out for a picnic in the country. Kinda hard to drive it at 70mph with someone up your ass the whole way

Taconic, 218 and 9w around storm king mountain, and bear mt pkwy are all fun little jaunts. I agree that taconic in Putnam co is pretty miserable.

From a pure discomfort standpoint, Northway (87) south from Plattsburgh to about warrensburg is pretty intimidating during a winter storm, particularly at night.

LOL Try Lowville to Utica in a lake effect storm at night. They might find you in the Spring.
