Last night ... first WS game ever ended with an obstruction call.

Tonight... first WS game ever ended with a pick-off play.

Tomorrow night... first WS game ever ended with a triple play? Or a hit batsman?

They've probably been ended with everything else.

It might be good that these games start too late for kids to watch as the fundamentals in this series are severely lacking. Are the pitchers this good, or are these offenses really bad right now?

The baseball gods were just making up for that terrible ending the night before. And we Sox fans thank them for that.

One of the more improbable endings to a World Series was in 1926. The Cardinals leading the Yanks 3-2 in the 9th inning of the 7th game. Babe Ruth walks and with Bob Muesel at bat gets thrown out attempting to steal 2nd base!

Even though Ruth stole 123 bases in his career and was successful 50% of his attempts it was a terrible decision since this was basically the same team that became known as Murderer's Row during the 1927 season.

How about a balk? Hidden ball trick?

The pitchers are that good, and at this point in the season, it's not an anomaly.

what about it ending with a floater? I havent seen that since scuffy mcgee

My vote is fan interference.

What was Wong thinking there? Down 2, his run was meaningless. Little league mistake.

Yes, it was a Little League mistake. The funniest part was McCarver when he kept chastising the Sox for holding Wong on. He basically said they were stupid for doing so...perhaps their scouts had picked something up Tim? Oh, wait, you are the only one who knows anything about the game......

McCarver has been horrible this whole series. I am a Sox fan and okay with a little homerism, but he was pissed at Descalso for swinging at 3-1 count, and then the Cardinal rally, he was killing the Cardinals for not pounding Peavy in game 3. McCarver has been rooting for the Cardinals this whole series, while Buck who is the son of the famous Cardinal announcer has been pretty neutral and laughing at McCarver because he knows how he thinks. I am getting sick of this Cardinal way crap. Its like the annoying Patriots way crap. When you win its because your talented players executed and not because of some magical garbage.

McCarver IS an idiot. But, there hasn't been an adequate explanation for holding Wong on. The pitcher said he doesn't read scouting reports... That play was a convergence of perfect timings. Uehara spun exactly as Wong was making that silly hop step. Uehara didn't even see him hop. Just happy coincidence.

Yep. Soxs were wrong and got lucky.

I also agreed with McCarver about holding the runner. That hole on the left side was enormous, especially with a lefty at the plate. But Wong really blew it (no pun intended). You need to be extreeeemely careful in that situation. And you should never "hop". A slide-step is more appropriate because it keeps at least one foot on the ground at all times. Not that he needed any type of lead anyway! Ahh!

Crazy ending to a great game. As a Yankee fan, I'm pulling for the Cards (as hard as that is), but I've enjoyed the level of play so far. Excellent baseball in my opinion.

Actually, this looks like it was actually a plan, even if Uehara didn't know about it. I'm guessing Napoli remembered the meeting and that's why he was holding Wong. (Wow that looks and sounds wrong).

As long as it ends with a Red Sox loss I will take it!!!
I love the idea that Yankee fans are at home hoping the Red Sox don't win. I remember as a kid being so frustrated when the Yankees were good and wishing it were us and hating them with everything inside me. Now if the Sox can win this series we will have won 3 of the last 10 World Series with the Yankees only winning 1 and we are well positioned for the future. It's like how I felt about Georgetown when they were going to the National Title game in the 80's. I was so mad and hated them so much wishing Syracuse was there. Now I feel like Syracuse is moving to an even better place and they are being left behind.

McCarver is terrible but I feel like Buck is just as bad. They are both complete homers. When Ortiz hit the 2 run shot in game 2 they were silent as he went around the bases.

McCarver is a complete jackhole and always has been insufferable. He's basically a decent announcer but he treats viewers like they've never seen the game before or are completely inept in terms of basic baseball knowledge ('it's a two-run game, not a one-run game' over and over ... I mean, most of us can determine the score).

But what's funny is that he's such an old school baseball guy that he gets hung up on little stuff like that. Honestly if Napoli's not holding the runner there, he's still playing on the line to take away doubles. I suppose it's less of a hole on the right side, but it's still a pretty big hole for Beltran at the plate and even bigger if Pedroia has to at least pay some attention to the runner at second. It's just a pointless thing for him to fixate on in that spot -- especially given that holding him on, in fact, ended up resulting in the final out of the game.

Yeah, his response to Descalso was hilarious. He's right, there was zero point in swinging but that was a total fanboy response.

So you were pulling for Wong, then right? I disagree on holding the runner b/c they are playing no doubles defense in that spot anyway. All you're talking about is increasing Napoli's range to a degree, but he's still hugging the line there. I don't know -- I know what conventional wisdom says, but I think there's a big hole on the right side any way you slice it in that situation.
