Watching the GTown-Cincy game and accidentally flipped the channel to ESPN2. They were presenting the ESPN documentary "Unguarded" the story of Chris Herren and his career-ending battle with drugs and alcohol. Actually quite an inspiring tale. He is something like 6 years sober now and runs basketball camps and mentors kids and adults. Sometimes very tough to watch and listen to what he did to himself during and after he destroyed his basketball career with drugs. BTW Jerry Tarkanian looking very old ... what is he like 90 now. Highly recommend the documentary.I won't often say this, but nice job ESPN.

And no, thanks to the miracle of the DVR I did not miss the GTown-Cincy game.

Saw it when it was on previously. An outstanding story and good for him for turning his life around. Hopefully he can keep it that way.

I just bought his book "Basketball Junkie". Planning on reading it in the next week.

it was awesome. 3 years sober i think. either way, talented guy terrible outcome. watching those college clips, he seemed like the ultimate Ahole

Did anyone else read Fall River Dreams before all of this stuff happened to Herren? Interesting looking back at how things turned out after having read that.

Very compelling doc. The interesting thing about stories like this is that there is not really any good reason to believe he is clean now or will stay clean. I hope he is/does, but his story isn't over just because he is giving speeches now.

Yeah, I liked when he saw Tark again and said he was "doing very well" and Tark looked at him and said that he had told him the exact same thing last time he saw him (when he was still using).

I thought it was a great read. Without spoiling anything, there are even some Syracuse references.

When you read Fall River Dreams, it's pretty easy to see how Chris (and a bunch of others from that team) ended up taking the path they did.

One of my favorite of the Espn docs. Saw it when it first aired back in October (commented then on it) and caught some of it again over the holidays. Very compelling indeed. The one on Marcus Dupree, "The Best That Never Was" was also quite gravitating. How would you like to live with that kind of label?
