OT: Wheels coming off for Schiano

Yeah, I know but Saban stunk up Miami, Petrino crapped out at Atlanta, Pete Carroll drowned with the Jets, and they all got great college jobs. Don't sell the NFL cache short. Texas might think they need to hire a defensive minded coach. Let's face it if Schiano can get hired as a HC in the NFL anything can happen.

I concede, stranger things have happened. We will remain silent since we did hire.GRob.

No middle of the pack or better BCS Power 5 team will look at Schiano. The will analyze his record and discover that he racked up wins against Pop Warner and Powder Puff teams with no league championships and no NC talk. Besides, he isn't going anywhere unless they guarantee a helicopter at his disposal. Still, The Empire State Building was lit up in red once...
That's right. His best case scenario (outside potentially PSU which won't have a long line of candidates) is a trickle-down (up) where a top coach moves, a second-tier coaches fills the void and GS gets that second tier gig. Needs to be a state school. His helicopter and billboard stuff won't fly at Wake. South Florida feels right...but they're just one year in with their new guy.

Al Golden to Texas
Schiano to Miami (FL)?

Charlie Strong would be a strong candidate (did I just actually say that?).

strong'd also be a candidate at bama if saban leaves 9or to fill what other sec job opened up because somebody filled the bama job). plus lville is the only decent program schiano ever beat. i think we've got a winner! enjoy, louisville!

AND Texas hired GRob! Maybe there is a future for me in Austin.
And if that happens, TexanMark will arrange for us Texas based Orange fans to crash at your place and tailgate boldly in Longhorn territory once we are on the schedule. We post signs stating we are "THE REAL ORANGE TEAM!"

I am now in the Shady to Texas camp.

Strong is a candidate for almost any job. Expect Louisville to offer another increase.

I don't want to defend GS but for the record he was 19-39 in his first 5 years at Rutgirls - .327 winning pct. In his last 6 he only had one losing season and was 49-28 for a .636 winning pct. That is what got him the Tampa job.

And yet, he never was able to win anything significant.

Certainly true enough but I think he (or anyone else) gets marked on a Rutgirls curve. If he can win there blah blah blah.

Marrone got marked on a big curve alos for winning at SU. A .500 record and gets HC in the NFL! I know the difference is that he had NFL experience and recommendations from SP and BP but still - quite a reach in some people's eyes. Orange fans know he was great judge of potential and knew how to develop lineman but you really had to be paying attention and not be distracted from the record.

he's one of the dumber coaches in the nfl and his team has a crazy number of head shots. you would think that would be a priority for him after legrand's injury

crazy number of head shots, legrand's injury,......

they might be related.

UT fans think they can get Saban (as ridiculous as that is). If they end up with Schiano, they would have a meltdown.
They thought this because a blog started a fake rumor that he was going to Texas and then it was picked up for 5 minutes by SI. Then all of the sudden it's a reality. It will never happen.

I hate Rutgers and Schiano but when he gets booted from the NFL he will get a look from many halfway decent colleges and maybe even a couple of the big boys. That is just a fact. The interest in him is not based on padding his record but the overall perception that he's a really good coach, motivator, and recruiter. Facts don't matter in these scenarios.

A professional football franchise thought Greg Schiano would make a good NFL head coach?

go back and watch legrand's hit, he lead with his head
That's what we hinted at.

Kevin Everett did the same thing. He got lucky

Is what it is. If he comes back to college, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up at a middle to high tier school. All about being a salesman, IMO.

I know that and I have been saying for years that hit was a product of schiano's dirt tactics that he preaches.

As a matter of fact I played that hit over a few times to the wife this past sunday as Rutgers retired his number that ran in the morning news cycle that was being reported that day

at the same time I wished these types of injuries never happen to any one player...

Now the NFL is experiencing that as well

I would think Texas would strongly consider Chad Morris.

they wouldn't take an assistant without major experience...and they might be turned off from taking Clemson coaches the way Rick Barnes is trending! I'm interested in how UNC does this year. Fedora will get a big job but probably has a couple more years to put in (interestingly, that's where they got Mack). If Hugh Freeze knocks it out the rest of the year, that's a guy to look at.

The guy who's working his way up the charts (and this saddens me as a married-in LSU fan) is Cam Cameron. He's been off the charts fantastic this year at LSU, has a couple stops of NFL HC experience...and has D1 HC experience. Crap, I'm convincing myself that, short of Saban, he's a fit.

Fixed

I don't like Schiano and I don't like UConn, but they might be good for each other.

This was exactly my thought on the way home from work today listening to Booger McFarland (former Buc, won Super Bowl at Tampa and Indy) ripping on Schiano. I will be surprized if he lasts the year.

December 8 - Buffalo Bills vs. Tampa Bay Bucs.

Marking calendar now.
