He said that the freshmen would be good complimentary players but are being asked to do too much. In no way did he say this team has no talent or that the freshmen will always be just rotational players. He called them complimentary players as freshmen, which isn’t really a knock.

What's interesting is that they mentioned tonight that all the new Illini players (transfers and frosh) all have already won championships in their career at different levels.

In the St John's game, they mentioned four transfers were Conference Defensive POY.

Both seemed like good blueprints for winning games.

The important qualifier was “as freshman.” Jesse wasn’t a contributor as a freshman either. But our staff helped to develop him and now look at him. It takes time. Which is why it was insane for JB not to mine the portal in the off season for a high level small forward and possibly a shooting guard and instead rely mostly on freshman.
