Our offensive "system"

Chris Bell last made a 3 in a game on Dec. 3.

They ran plays for him today. Multiple. ATO. He didn't try today. He looks like a kid that wants no part of playing basketball.

I'm not saying that Red has done a good job of getting him looks this year (he has not to be sure), but this game was on Bell for not working harder in terms of his looks from three.

He looks like someone that did not want to be playing basketball today.

I miss JB of 20 years ago when he still had that fire to win and recruit. We are now a third world basketball team learning how to play basketball together.

No discernible sets.

Not enough movement.

Too many long 2's, because we can't get anything going earlier in the shot clock.

Too much east and west.
As opposed to our ‘defensive system’. lol. Feel for red but … not good.

Oh he's broken. Full on existential crisis.

Our offensive system matches our defensive system which also matches our coaching all of them are awful and nonexistent.
I usually don’t get on this side of the fence but I have to say, I’ve been watching SU BB since the early 80’s and tbh, I’ve never seen a squad that looks so unprepared and confused as this team has looked. It’s awful to watch as others have said.
I also worry that the high value recruits in the wings might change their minds.
Then what?

Then we start fresh, which is fine.

Reds and his assistants coaching is so bad it's like watching a high school game out there.

Position Less Basketball:
Maybe this has been discussed and I missed it, but I guess Red’s plan was/is to embrace “Position Less” basketball. Oh, and I’m so grateful for all you guys on this forum…thank you!

I'm fine with positionless basketball.

Heck, even dating as far back as the 80s we used to have guys who were versatile / capable of playing multiple positions.

But that to me is different than not having a cohesive, structured offensive concept. I get that we were held back by subpar point guard play, but we've been trapped in iso ball so long that I think some 'Cuse fans forget what quality basketball looks like.

Totally agree…was just wondering if that’s part of the Issue. Thank you for replying.

For it to be really positionless there needs to be much more movement off the ball

It becomes more about general motion schematics and then teaching players how to work/improvise within those schemes, and less set plays

But I don't trust this staff to develop those schematics and structures -- much less even have the experience and background to adequately teach them. And then recruit and target the right players as well?

Might as well get a new coach at that point.

We need to make shots.

Watching these tournament games with teams actually running offense, shows how far away we are in both talent and coaching. The talent part I believe to be fixable eventually. Coaching, I don’t have the same hopes!
