Our record says it all

Definitely agree this is a State of Emergency, but the record does not come close to saying it all.

The remaining schedule and the trajectory will make the 9 - 11 point look good by the time this season is over.

How can the players possibly have a positive attitude when they know the coach will throw all but two of them under the bus no matter what transpires on the Court ? Good Coaches are supposed to defend their kids and take as much of the blame as possible upon themselves. Jimmy has never done that. In the past he could get away with it because one could argue that he was just being objective, but there is no way anybody can pretend about objectivity any longer. The winning records have hidden this coaching malpractice, but slow and steady malaise has come home to roost.

This program is in almost total disarray that is close to going nuclear.

What probably bothers me the most is that the ACC really sucks this year. Duke is a national title contender. No other team is in the top 25. Florida State and Wake Forest receive votes. Syracuse beat FSU once, could have beaten them twice, and had WF beaten until JB III threw a bad inbounds pass and then let a WF player wide open for a dunk. In almost any other year, Syracuse would be easily top 5 in the league, and arguably second.

Yep that’s truly the sad part of this. If we had last years team in this years ACC, our record would be better than it was last years. Thats how bad the ACC is this year

I understand why some folks in this community are bored or angry with the repeated points like the above which leads to getting called a bad fan, a hater, and other derogatory names, but your last comment really drives it home for me.

it feels like we were watching a slow moving fire and pointing it out along the way, being called alarmists the whole time,...and now the forest is on the fire and we are being asked not to talk about it.

im not sure if some of the fan base is like “yeah we get, it’s bad, but we don’t want to take the L” or they really don’t think it’s as bad as it is. I feel the empty seats will be the only way to open eyes...and even then it can be excused away.

A lot of people have 'short' perspectives and seem to think that legacies are permanent. There is a long list of programs that were 'premier' for good periods of time, that are now 'also rans.' We are going to have the Carrier Dome for a long while forward, and that's a key component of our identity. But, if we don't have the team performance to make the Dome an asset and not turn it into a liability with volumes of empty seats, it's incumbent upon JW to not let us slip further into the vast void of nothingness.

We are nothing right now. To our fans, there are a lot of memories. And our image is deeply embedded in what our fans think we are. But, we are not that to the outside world at this point. And what matters most is what we are/aren't to the kids who might someday play for or against us. We have lost our luster. And even a couple more Bubble-to-Sweet 16s in JAB's final years won't restore that.

The good news is, that means with a little March magic, there is a slight sliver of hope we can win the ACC tournament and make March madness despite how bad we are. Bad news is, that would most likely extend JBs time here…

THIS. The dome is only an asset if fans want to show up. Covid culture and lifestyle changes are going to make this a lot harder going forward. If the administration lets JB run this back next year... you might as well bring back the blue curtain for the 300 section because we can't move back to Manley.

What sucks is at least in seasons like 1997, 2002, 2007, 2008, while we ended up missing the tournament, we were right in the mix until the very end. Each of those seasons we were probably only one or two wins tops from making the field. So the games were still extremely meaningful.

This year, in late January, the regular season is basically over. It's so depressing to just go through the motions for the next 1.5 months like a Greg Robinson (RIP) football season.

We haven't won a conference tourney in 16 years -- we have to be due for some type of magical run, right?

Yowza. That is something. I mean, that’s March, right? But, beating North Dakota and San Diego State a week later is supposed to be the litmus test?

Agreed. The whole program has been going downhill since Hop left.

That's the enthusiasm that brings me back every day. Lost to Pitt again but there's still hope we can win the ACC tourney and get that auto-bid. Would we be the first ACC tourney champ who has to play in the 'first-round' play-in game?

Evidence is there that it started before he left.
It feels weird, but the majority of my tenure on syracusefan.com has included a general wave of mediocrity and decline. I found the site looking for info on Fab's suspension. And then we were still a great team the next season, but the scratches started showing and then the sanctions and Hop departure and then the wheels really started coming off with now 8 seasons of meh.

14-15 was an awful season. At the time we expected that to be a one off and I guess that can be partially blamed on Cmac getting injured, but Kaleb was a big whiff by Hopkins.

I think we were decent in 15-16 and probably would have had less losses had JB not been suspended. The real downfall in recruiting was seen 16-17 when we had to go after grad transfers just to field a competitive team because we struck out in recruiting.

With a healthy Coleman that team could have been real dangerous even without Kaleb being a decent soph. Too bad DC2 was never healthy enough to play to his potential.

Theres literally no chance we make a run in the conf tourny. Can’t win the tourny by playing 5 games in 5 days and playing 5-7 players the entire time. The guys will be dead by the 3rd game

Yeah, I hear ya. And, this year's ACC is embarrassing bad. More proof last night as a very bad GT team beat one of the league's supposedly higher tier teams in FSU by double digits.

As another mentioned, we haven't won a conference tournament in 16 years. Moreover, we have yet to be able to win two consecutive ACC tournament games since being in the ACC...not even getting to a semi-final. :(

They are generally out of gas by the 10 min mark of the 2nd half of each game as is.

Even Packer and Durham said this Syracuse team can't play defense.
