From under 14 minutes till JB called TO with 12:22 and then from 5 minutes till 2:25 left.
Both times the team had no energy on offensive end and Rutgers junkyard dog play outworked us and both times they went on runs.
My math had us -11 combined in those stretches before a stoppage in play.
Somebody should have committed any foul to get a TV TO.

We only had 1 TO left so we couldn’t use it.

We didn’t make a single sub in the second half till the under 4 TO when Newton came in for Girard for less than a minute.

Honestly I didn’t even notice we didn’t sub in the second until late. Too busy wondering what the hell the color guy was talking about and staring at commercials I guess.

interesting. Obviously we are limited with two starters out we can’t ignore that. But still, woody seems capable and deserves to get more substitutions.

Bol and Frank would help in the middle instead of marek getting run over every play

I only tracked the lack of subs because I had the game on mute.

I was going crazy that the offense just shut down because Griffin, Marek and Guerrier got tired and Richmond needed help.
Girard was a negative offensively which hurt our defense.

Agreed... for the first time in a LONG time we don't lose all that much with the bench.

I’ll say it, the second half was THE WORST SUBSTITUTION JOB by JB in his 45 years of coaching. This loss is entirely on his stubbornness. He will say his players don’t get tired. In an interview the other day he said Kadary gets tired. Can’t have it both ways. Players get tired. Why do you think coaches substitute in the NBA? Lebron doesn’t play 48 minutes. Abysmal coaching job by JB.

pretty sure wn didn't even see his first minutes until the 10 minute mark in the 1st half when hey were down 10.

i don't know how much he played in he 2nd half but i don't remember seeing him in.

I thought girard was subbed out at the next stoppage after he took that horrible 30 footer and Griffin moved to the top of the zone. I think it was around the 12 minute mark
of the second half. Woodie was in at forward and AG moved to the 2. I remember Rutgers scored because no one was set on transition D.

Woody played for about 30 seconds in the second half. He was the only sub in the second half. It’s the reason we lost the game. Team hit a wall at the 5 minute mark. Completely on JB.

Was clearly out coached tonight

awful. you're right. JB has to take some heat here as well.

On one hand, I want to give JB credit because I was pleasantly surprised to see that he went with both Woody and Braswell in the 1st half (and got productive minutes from both), and rolled for a little while with a backup center. I didn't expect it to be Bol Ajak, but he put one of his 5s in.

On the other hand, yeah... that second half was rough, and another clunker from Girard hurt. I know the bench options are limited at guard, but geez, let's give Newton a few minutes alongside Kadary up top when Joe's all out of sorts.

Based on everything we’ve seen so far...Woody should’ve gotten a solid 8-10 minutes in the second half.

LOL, Joe Crispin, or whatever his name is, brutal. I think he carries his resume in his wallet. I know more about his bench warming UCLA days that I really care to. Joe's quick 30 footer was a good shot?? What the he..was he talking about

I thought Girard saw the bench for a while before that.

Girard played 34 minutes. He sat in the first half.
Then for 30 seconds in the second half.

We didn’t sub for 15 minutes in the second half.
The team got gassed.

Agree. There were some long stretches with no stoppages/tv timeouts to get some rest and I thought it was pretty obvious our guys were dragging.

I know that it is JB's MO to play his starters as much as possible, especially in the second half of a tight game. This has been debated endlessly here for what seems like decades and you can either believe in JB's ideology or disagree with it (I'm in the camp of playing more guys).

But this year, this sub pattern makes no sense given that the team lost those 2 weeks of practice and JB himself has acknowledged that the team is not in peak basketball shape. Even if you just get the starters spot rest for 60-90 seconds of game time leading into TV timeouts, that would save their legs. I know we have been shorthanded without Buddy and SID, but there really is no excuse for this. It is the height of arrogance and stubbornness on JB's part. He has to recognize that in 2020, in basketball as in life, all the rules have changed.
