Gregg recently competed at the 2025 Underclassman Challenge and scored 107.64 points in punting. Gregg is has a D1 leg and has shown to be a dominant punter. At a December 2024 Showcase Camp he scored an impressive 115.55 points in punting and showed college-level consistency! Gregg had another strong showing at the July 2024 Kohl's National Scholarship Camp. He scored an impressive 104.49 points in punting. He drives the ball downfield very well and is ahead of other very good players in the 2026 class. At the Future Stars Invitational, he showed advanced leg speed and charted impressive punts at camp. He had excellent command of his "A" ball and increasing the command of his body and keeping his steps short will be key for continued development. His overall score at camp was 99.04 points which includes a big ball of 46 yards with 4.65 seconds of hang time. He will be fun to watch develop in the next two years. Gregg competed at the 2023 Kohl's Eastern Winter Showcase. He had a punt score of 97.31 points. His big ball measured a distance of 52 yards with a hang time of 4.42 seconds. He also competed at the 2023 Kohl's National Scholarship Camp and had an excellent showing. Gregg has D1 tools and will have an important next 12 months ahead!

MORGANTOWN – One of the best specialists in West Virginia now has the opportunity to remain in the Mountain State and represent the Mountaineers.
University High School punter, Jimmy Gregg, the top-rated punter in the 2026 class, announced his scholarship offer to play Division-I football for head coach Rich Rodriguez and WVU.
“This means the world to me,” Gregg said on Friday. “This opportunity isn’t something everyone gets and being able to go to school because of my ability on the field is special. Every school that contacts me means a lot to me, but this is my home and that makes it a little bit sweeter.”
Jimmy is being actively recruited by multiple high-major schools, including Purdue, Louisville, Ole Miss, NC State, Syracuse and Ohio State.
Gregg says growing up a Mountaineer fan and being able to don the uniform that other WVU specialist’s have, like former WVU and NFL specialist Pat McAfee, gives him motivation to leave his own legacy among the special teams unit at WVU.
“McAfee is the only punter Coach Rodriguez had ever offered a scholarship to before now, and that was a pretty cool fact to hear when I was told,” he said. “I’m a big fan of Pat’s of course, but not only for his punting. He’s just a great person and ambassador for the WVU program. His journey is a great example of where hard work can take you. That said, I want to write my own story and do my thing.”
Jimmy says he realized he had the ability to take his kicking to the next level around the summer between his freshman and sophomore season’s with UHS.
“When I first began punting it was mainly because I simply had the leg for it,” he said. “Then it started growing into something bigger and my coach at the time, Donnie Tucker, told me he thought I could have a future in it. I thought it through and contacted some trainers and got to work. I’ve been blessed with some amazing coaches and people.”
Another thing Jimmy says he’s excited for is to follow in the footsteps of his cousin and uncle, who each played college sports on scholarship.
“My cousin is currently playing soccer at Furman and my uncle played at Marrietta,” he said. “Having the ability to do the things that someone you’ve looked up to does means a lot. This is something I’ve worked hard for and something I know will benefit me beyond the field.”
Gregg says he predicts a decision regarding his commitment sometimes over the summer.

I came across my old bursars bill for SU for my senior year at SU in 1979. Tuition, room and board and fees totaled around $7,800. It seams outrageous that it now costs nearly $90,000, but that’s 45 years ago. It’s actually less than a $2,000 increase a year. If I had to guess, the biggest increases have come in the past twenty years.

Storehouse is a senior. We definitely need someone to replace him and the walk ons did I not look close to being D1 ready as punters. So we are definitely going to add a punter. I assume a scholarship will be awarded and this guy appears to be plenty good enough to merit one.

At placekicker, it appears Kennedy lost his appeal and we pivoted to walk-on Jadyn Oh as his replacement. I believe he is going to be a sophomore. I believe we awarded him a scholarship.

But we have placekickers coming in for visits (one is coming in this weekend, probably is already on campus). Could we offer one a scholarship (they seem top of the line)? And then have 3 scholarships tied up with kicking in 2026? A punter and two placekickers?

I wonder if Oh was given a conditional scholarship, with the understanding it might not be around in 2026 unless he has a great season this year? Is that even possible anymore? Thought scholarships were to be honored for 4 seasons now.

Maybe Gregg is good enough to punt and placekick? That would be awesome.

I could be wrong but I don’t think Syracuse plans to go to the 105 player limit for football scholarships. They might go to 105 but a bunch of spots are going to be taken by walk-ons.

These positions are grossly underrated. So I say, yes, tie up 3. We need kickoffs into the end zone and not out of bounds, we need punts to pin an offense back, and we need field goals 40 or less to be automatic. That goes a long way to creating winning football.
