OK, I'm just going to say it. People who knew about the abuse and then paid money to his charity afterwards appear to be making payoffs. We all know the rumors. The money trail is going to be interesting & even more appalling than this already is.

There's just nothing more that can be said. I don't think there is much more that could come out that would surprise me. This thing has implicated so many people that it is almost like the kingpin of the cover up, Paterno, is an afterthought. 2 yeaqrs from now I think there will be dozens of people in jail unless $$$ and politics protects people.

I said about a week ago that we were going to find out that Wendell Courtney played a big role in all of this.

At this point, it is clear that the local law enforcement, from cops up to the AG, played a role in either covering things up or at the very least, delaying investigation (in the case of Corbett). There is ZERO chance that this is going to get sorted out without external law enforcement coming in, because the entire community is eyeball deep in this.

We were invited to bid a project at State College two years ago. I drove down there and went to a prebid meeting. I remember driving back and saying to myself, wow this place is really up. It became clear to me that State College and the people working there were convinced that the world revolves around State College and didn't care. I never bid the project and haven't been back

If even half of the related cover up stories prove to be true, I wonder if the Big 10 will kick them out.

Funny you should mention the academic side of things... I'm in a position where I have an opportunity to write a grant proposal for some funding from the Air Force Research Lab, but I need an academic partner (I work at a government lab and regulations on the grant permit me from being the primary contractor). I know a few professors at Penn State that have expertise in the field - I've actually written a proposal with them in the past... but I've been hesitant to contact them. Part of me thinks that is unfair to judge their Materials Science program based on the sins of the football program, but then we all know that these sins have extended far past that. Plus, there is the question of whether or not a proposal with the Penn State name attached would even get full consideration now?I'm leaning towards writing it with a professor at Case Western Reserve.
