Pace Postgame

Love Freeman... he needs to play inside out and stop taking threes unless it's within the flow of the offense. He can dominate on the pick and roll and every single play should start with him setting a pick for the guy bringing the ball up the court. They should also let him live in the high post against zone teams like teams did to us for decades.

We need to do away with the weave where he gets the ball at the 7 o'clock at the 3 point line. He surprisngly fumbled the ball there or made a bad play after getting it there multiple times. His sweet spot seems to be more at 3 o'clock next to the FT line.
I agree, they are wasting Freeman's inside game with the way they are deploying him now. He could be a threat to score and get assists from the post, but they have him almost exclusively facing the basket.

While I don't think he's necessarily a me-first player, it looks like Donnie is given autonomy to go by his own feel on the offensive end and so part of that (I think) is what he *wants* to be offensively and what he wants scouts to see offensively. And, yes, most coaches would reign that in for the betterment of the team.

If I were an opposing coach getting ready to play Cuse (especially for the buy teams), I'd tell my guys to play as physical as possible.
Definitely. We don't, and haven't for years, embraced the hard things in basketball. Discipline to run an offense, easier to chuck 3s. Set bad screens to get the pop as soon as possible on the pick and pop. The work required to establish low post on both ends. We take the path of least resistance. That's our calling card, and why we will struggle until there is a complete culture change

wait, are you criticizing our _coaching_?

I’ve learned over the years to stop saying “well it’s just early in the season” or “it’s just an exhibition game, they’ll be fine come regular season”. Maybe but you don’t ever want to say those phrases. Good teams are good from the jump. This is TBD and anything can happen. Better athletes for sure. But, that’s a D2 team.

The weird thing about Red as a coach is that the team DOES get better, but it takes too damn long, and we lose too many games along the way.

High-low game, Donnie high, sets picks, hits a great open 3 (pick n pop). In the 2nd half, dives more often, passes to the other big down low. Lots of good stuff about the offense, except it took until 25-30 minutes in the game for the guards and wings to start moving around without the ball.
