Pasqualoni's Last Full Recruiting Class - 2004

This board wildly overrates SU's talent on an annual basis. That's entrely why some of these classes look OK to you. They're all below average, hence our crappy won/lost record over the last decade.
Yup. The one I never understand is when people look back on a class and say "Player X was a successful member of the class because he was a contributor." Well, contributor to what exactly?

And just so it's clear, I'm not ripping on the kids, I'm ripping on the way some evaluate the talent that comes through. There's absolutely nothing wrong with having a certain percentage of the roster never achieve athletic feats beyond being a solid student-athlete that sees the field in a somewhat limited capacity over their career. "Contributing" like that is fine, there's no shame in it, but if the teams weren't winning over that stretch... well, the recruiting probably wasn't good because we were too high on "Contributers" and too low on "Performers."

This was entirely my point.

The mere fact that someone was, say, a 2 year starter doesn't mean that they were an above-average talent. It just means they were the best option. It's not like we're going to play 7 on 11 if we don't have all-conference talent at certain spots.

People disagree about coach P. I like everything about the man except what happened to the program after McNabb graduated. People can disagree about how or why that happened, but I believe it began to happen while he was the head of the program. It was his responsibility.

It's rare to find college coach who lasts more than a decade and who leaves the program better than it was when he arrived. Coach P had an impressive long run with a lot of exciting moments and great achievements. He also left the program in much worse shape than he found it.
