"The sanctions announced today by the NCAA today defame a great coach and educator without any input from our family. Unfortunately all of the facts have been ignored by the NCAA, the Freeh Group and the University."

His family should be thankful they aren't all in jail. No way none of them didn't knew anything when it went on for decades.

It takes a strong man to keep his mouth shut when he learns that a former colleague has been raping children. I salute you, JoePa, and your family.

It's the one finger salute, but still.

will somebody please make them stop.

"...without any input from our family."

That is classic. Time for the Paterno family to go away for awhile.

Even though I feel some, if not all, of them knew what was going on, I get how tough this is for all of them. They first saw their father/husband get fired, then pass away, and now are watching his legacy ripped to shreads. This can't be easy at all for any of them. But, the best way to handle it is to .

The state college royal family is having a hard time accepting that they've already been booted from the castle and stripped of power.

Machiavelli could relate, I'm sure... as his signature work, The Prince, comes to mind...

"The descriptions within The Prince have the general theme of accepting the aims of princes; such as glory, and indeed survival, can justify the use of immoral means to achieve those ends."

Defame? Defame?

You sack of excrement.

Gary Parrish.

Note to Paterno Family: Your father covered for a pedophile. I'm sorry it happened. But it did happen. Stop...

"That the President, the Athletic Director and the Board of Trustees accepted this unprecedented action by the NCAA without requiring a full due process hearing before the Committee on Infractions is an abdication of their responsibilities and a breach of their fiduciary duties to the University and the 500,000 alumni."

Well that's something you Paternos know a bit about, isn't it?

Why the do they deserve any input?

The University, the NCAA, the Freeh Group, and every objective rational person out there are all colluding together to tarnish Joe Paterno's legacy. It's a huge conspiracy, only rivaled by "Who killed JFK".

It's amazes me that in light of what has happened that his family continues to exhibit a sense of entitlement.

Exactly what standing do they think the Paterno family has in all of this? The sense of entitlement, developed over decades of royalty, is palpable.

SAINT JOE'S FAMILY MUST BE CONSULTED. THIS IS HOW THINGS ARE DONE IN HAPPY VALLEY. DON'T YOU KNOW WHO WE ARE?!?!

:bang:

The family really needs to stop making statements. My guess is his son is the one making all the noise and is making it worse. Im not sure who in the family knew but I sort of feel bad for JoePa's wife.

My take in this is that the problem is Sue Paterno and the boys are doing this for mom.

Unbelievable. They really need to and go away.

The damage to their patriarch is already done--and it's irrevocable. We're long past the point of damage control for the man's legacy--which is presumably why they are issuing statements.

JoePa is getting exactly the treatment that he deserves, given his complicity in this heinous cover up.

I'm not saying you are wrong but why do you think that? I would have guessed the boys are trying to make Sue feel as though Joe was upstanding.

my take is the paternos are idiots and their lawyer must be charging a whole hell of a lot to just stand back and let them make complete arseholes of themselves.

this will be his last job, so hes got to be getting a few mill.

I'm not so sure they would have known anything. The accusations keep flying around like we're in 1690's Salem, MA. Let the fact present themselves before you point the finger at JoePa's family as being guilty.. JoePa is the predator by coverup.. he didn't commit the crime himself, so there may not have been any signs and thus implication of his family is extremely premature.

Agree. Maybe the wife, but quite possibly no one else.
