Just saw that he hooked on with Carolina, I believe as DL coach. A football lifer for sure. Probably have to carry him off the field someday.

Has he ever been recognized/honored in any sort of individual way at Syracuse? Not in a group setting like the HOF but just him for his achievements. If not, I believe it should be something that happens in the future.

I ask because the further I get away from that era the more I respect all he did at Syracuse and in the manner that he did it. At one time, I think I actually agreed he should be fired. I was wrong in that feeling. He's a Top 3 coach at SU all-time and how I long for those football years of my younger days with Mac and Paul back to back.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents and I'm sticking to it.

Well said, I feel the same way. I don’t regret thinking he should have left back when he did, Indont like the way it was done. And I didn’t understand the nature of college football and the investment required to be successful

I totally agree and have said so in the past. I know Coach Mac was more charismatic but I think Coach P. ranks 2nd if we’re honest. Coach Ben had a National Championship and years of success as well as all the great players.

We treated Coach P like crap, even when he was winning and almost from the start. Coach Deleone also. Pounding on their press box, the call in shows, etc…

I thought it was time When they lost to Rutgers but the truth is the wind was so bad it reallly made the game even and that FG that went backwards was really bad. I was there. Weather had as much to do with it as anything.

I think Coach P. deserves his due and I hope he gets it soon. I always thought he was a great coach, underrated by the fans. Kind of like Dino in my mind.

This is not one of them.

Depends on how you look at it. As a fan of coach P I'm happy as he definitely knows how to do his job and good for him that he stills wants to keep busy. If I were a Carolina fan I don't see any stability and another stop gap situation in the coaching ranks.

If I were a Carolina Panther fan, I would be very happy that my head coach has hired an extremely knowledgeable, hard-working defensive mind whose attention to detail is unparalleled.

Ok he's a prefect hire...lol

I mean Ivan Fears, who was with Syracuse from 80-90, is still with the Patriots in 2022. Rumor is he's finally stepping down but Fears comes from the Mac tree of coaches and is super old.

P can still coach a D-Line and is fundamentally a solid NFL guy. Good for him having the zeal to still do this.

Coach P sure has staying power and success on both college and pro levels! Good for him!

Why? Because he coached a football team? He got paid to do a job. He did a job? We moved on. He moved on. Syracuse has really gone overboard with this stuff lately.
So I assume you are not a fan of the HoF concept or end of year awards? They all coached or played, got paid for it, and did their job. They all move on eventually and so do the fans.

I am less ok with the hall of fame concept than i once was. I think the membership has been watered down, just like with respect to who we "honor." And the moral ambiguity surrounding some of the members/those excluded, is problematic End of year awards provide contemporaneous validation - I have no problem with them.

Look, if pasqualoni came back, and the PA took the time to recognize him in a hometown hero kind of way, I would certainly applaud for him. He seems like a decent man and did a fine job for Syracuse. But it doesnt offend me that nothing has been done for him. If you are talking about a half-time showcase, a Pasqualoni day, etc., I don't believe he (or many other people, really) merits such recognition.

(1) he won 107 games; (2) he won 9-10 games six times; (3) he went to 9 bowl games in 14 seasons - he won 6 of those games; (3) he went to two Fiesta Bowls, an Orange Bowl, and a Gator Bowl; (4) he won multiple Big East Championships; (5) he recruited and developed Donovan McNabb, Marvin Harrison, Dwight Freeney Keith Bullock, Olinda Mare, and many other NFL players, and (6) he was a great representative of the school and the community.

Considering where this program has been since he left, it would seem appropriate to honor Coach P's great career as head coach of the Orange.

Before he was dismissed Pasqualoni was slated to become President of the American Football Coaches Association (only active coaches allowed). If you check the list of past presidents that’s pretty elite company.

So he coached football (well). Got it. Suffice to say, we have differing viewpoints on this. Admittedly, the older I get, the less enchanted I am by these guys accomplishments.

I appreciate p’s success. I appreciate his steadfast Manner. I’m (personally) not interested in “honoring” him.

You don’t get it. That’s fine.

Great post!

Since Coach P was run out of town by the alums and fans SU is 30 games under 500. We totally lost continuity in our recruiting program and we've never come close to getting it back. I'll never forget the look of disgust on Boeheim's face when P was fired.
