Paul Pasqualoni

So he coached football (well). Got it. Suffice to say, we have differing viewpoints on this. Admittedly, the older I get, the less enchanted I am by these guys accomplishments.

I appreciate p’s success. I appreciate his steadfast Manner. I’m (personally) not interested in “honoring” him.
Unfortunate

Remember that jillionaire who got rid of P at U Conn? I forgot his name. Boy did the new coach ever turn that program around. (Insert sound of toilet flushing).

(1) he won 107 games; (2) he won 9-10 games six times; (3) he went to 9 bowl games in 14 seasons - he won 6 of those games; (3) he went to two Fiesta Bowls, an Orange Bowl, and a Gator Bowl; (4) he won multiple Big East Championships; (5) he recruited and developed Donovan McNabb, Marvin Harrison, Dwight Freeney Keith Bullock, Olinda Mare, and many other NFL players, and (6) he was a great representative of the school and the community.

Considering where this program has been since he left, it would seem appropriate to honor Coach P's great career as head coach of the Orange.
Well said. We were LUCKY to ever have Coach P.

Mr. Burton

Since Coach P was run out of town by the alums and fans SU is 30 games under 500. We totally lost continuity in our recruiting program and we've never come close to getting it back. I'll never forget the look of disgust on Boeheim's face when P was fired.

It wasn't a bad decision to terminate a coach on a downward trajectory. There was enough evidence to show that the program had leakage issues from 02-04. The damning issue was how they terminated him, how they didn't try and work with him on identifying weaknesses in the program and to fix them, and the timing to which they did it. The biggest what-if ever is if he was allowed to see through the 2005 season. I think that season was going to be another slog but the schedule was such that P may have found 6 wins and fended off the firing

Did we also have to vacate six wins from Coach P’s last season due to NCAA violations?

I agree with most of that except the last sentence. No coach is winning 6 games with Patterson, Moss, and Lane. Gregory likely is a WR and not a DB which makes our D a lot worse. But the O certainly would have been better. We likely have a 2002 like season.

People need to remember too that he cratered UConn. The four years prior they were 33-19 with 8-5 being their worst record. He went 10-18 there.

His success post SU has been as an NFL DL coach. I think that says a lot about his ceiling.

Also Coach P being a yes man hurt our program. Part of the reason why Marrone left was not getting enough support. On the one hand you admire Coach P's loyalty but at the same time it would have been best for the program if he threatened to leave. He and Jake let the program crumble.

He had a great stretch at SU but it was time to move on. What he has done post SU IMO reaffirms we made the correct decision. But as you said it was done poorly.

The ensuing 17 years have certainly shown we've turned it around. Please defend 30 under 500 since we brilliantly saved the program by firing P.
