Since offense and defensive woes have already been touched on I thought it would be a good time to look at the amount of penalties we have been piling up. We have had more penalties called against us in every single game other then Tulane who had the same amount. Obviously we don't have the talent at this point to overcome something we can control. Is this signs of not being disciplined, or just over matched? Yesterday in our first 2 drives we have 3 crucial penalties. GT had just scored and after a great KO return by PTG we got down to the 25 yard line or so. We had just picked up 9 yards on first down and was 2nd and 1. Next play false start. Make it 2nd and 6, and the following play is an offensive holding. All a sudden we went from 2nd and 1 on the 25 to 3rd and 16 from 40. Just totally unacceptable. The drive before that we had a critical false start on 1st and 10. We just can't afford to get ourselves in 1st or 2nd and long. If we want to run the ball we can't be put in obvious passing downs. Most of these penalties are on the offensive side of the ball. Stupid things that can be avoided are killing us. Here is how we have fared in this department through the first 7 games

SU 8-70 Penn St 4-20
SU 7-62 NW 6-55
SU 8-65 Wangner 2-10
SU 7-75 Tulane 7-38
SU 8-60 Clemson 4-35
SU 8-72 NC ST 4-35
SU 9-91 GT 0-0 (Which is absolutely amazing in it's own right)

495 -193 total yards in penalties.

Boys what we have here is a very undisciplined team. This can't all be on the refs

All the false start penalties are really frustrating. We can't go through a game without one.

Absolutely appalling to look at. We're 112th in the US of A in penalties per game (just ahead of Florida and Nebraska.)

This team looks more like the sloppy Raiders franchise of the past decade with unearned swagger and tremendous evidence of stupid plays/penalties. Tough (or hard nosed) doesn't mean as much without smart...and that goes on the game-planning side as much as the players' play.

Welcome to the ACC.

Syracuse: 25 penalties
ACC opponents: 8 penalties

We're screwed - ACC TEAMS DONT COMMIT PENALTIES! Wish someone had told us before we joined ;).
