BC making a run at Al Golden. That's bad news for Syracuse b/c I think Al is a good northeast coach. He's not a "Miami" type guy. They need to hire someone like Petrino.

Very difficult job regardless the guy they hire.

BC is a mess and will be a rebuild of Syracuse proportions. Theirs (like ours) is no overnight rebuild. They need to replenish the cauffers over a series of recruiting classes.

It's bad news for Buttgers not Syracuse. We don't recruit New Jersey.

Will be interesting to see if someone like Golden would consider bailing on a Miami program that isn't just floundering now, but also might be facing undefined future sanctions.

Bob Diaco is supposedly interviewing for the HC job today. Seems like a good fit, if he truly wants the job.

Cheers,
Neil

He could stick around for a year, then wait for the UVA job to open up. Unless he's dying to coach BC.

I like it when Miami has a coach that is all for bling, hookers, handing out cash and drugs on the sidelines for games...it always added to their mystic.

Didn't you say the same thing when Miami hired him? I thought Golden was going to walk into every HS in NJ and take who he wanted?

If Al Golden couldn't sell NJ recruits on Miami, good luck at BC.

I act think BC is a great job. The expectations are not crazy, awesome city, great conference. Just need someone to build up the recruiting base again and just bang out 7-8 win seasons. Obrien had it going for a while there. Hubris got in his way. He should have stayed there until he retired.

Golden? Really not doing great in the ACC with Miami talent.. yet people think he can win at BC? I am sure hwould make them respectable so there is that

I agree with Ariz Knight as well...

The shine on Golden has worn off quite a bit. Not as high on him as I was a few years back, I just don't think he is a great coach, but he needs a solid OC

BC needs their own Doug Marrone. A BC guy who won't go there and springboard to a better job in 3-4 years. The ND D-Coordinator could be there if we can recruit. ND's defense is only as good as its talent and ND has 3 NFL DL on their roster and a top 10 NFL LB in Te'o. I don't know if he can coach or if he is taking advantage of his ND talent. Golden would be a home run hire for BC, but I don't see him leaving Miami unless the hammer from the NCAA will be huge. Miami has self-imposed 2 bowl bans to lessen the blow from the NCAA including this year where they would have been in the ACC Championship game. I don't know who BC is going to hire, but they need somebody who will rebuild it from the ground level up Tom Selleck look-a-like Frank Spaziani was BC's GROB.

not me, that would be stupid. enough talent in florida. no reason for him to recruit new jersey.

former giants wr/qb coach and current offensive coordinator mike sullivan has expressed interest in the job as well

That would be a great hire for them. And it would hurt Rutgers badly as well. Golden/D'Onofrio have more contacts in Jersey than anyone else right now. And unlike Miami, BC recruits Jersey hard.

I could be wrong, but despite offering a bunch of NJ kids since arriving at Miami, Golden & Donofrio have landed one NJ kid. I think you might be thing of Golden & Donofrio circa 2001.

Edit: I should add that the recruit was a legacy.

Miami does not recruit Jersey like BC does. It never has, never will. They are located in the middle of perhaps the best recruiting area in the country. That is where their focus is, and where it should be.

BC is forced to look elsewhere to get its recruits and NJ has been its bread and butter for many years (expect perhaps the last few when the Village Idiot was their HC). Look at the rosters of these teams historically and see if UM has the same number of recruits from NJ that BC does.

If Golden and D'Onofrio come to BC, they will focusing their recruiting efforts on NJ and they will do well. You are delusional if you are not concerned.

Oh wait. Rutgers fan. Never mind. ;)

Golden has probably offered a dozen NJ kids in the last two years. Just because they haven't had any luck, doen't mean they aren't trying.

As for BC, call me delusional but I'm not concerned with Golden at BC. Rutgers has a better game day atmosphere, we have better facilities, we are the better team currently, and we will now be playing in a better conference (let's keep it real as the kids say) against better competition.

And here we go . . .

His pep talks would be legendary. But it's possible he'd forget to stop talking and the team would miss the 1st quarter.

I guess you could put it that way.

I don't expect it to stay that way much longer.

There's some stink that has followed him too.

Golden problem in recruiting has been the impending doom at Miami. It's made even tougher when you're at a school that far away. He's overrated anyways.

You're problem in NJ now is going to be Wisky, Michigan, PedSt etc.
