I'm just curious if there are writers that aren't in favor of Pete making the HOF. I guess if he was on the ballot we would find out. Based on his statistics he should be unanimous, but you just wonder how many still hold on to the gambling issue. Especially in 2024 when there are so many fans, and probably writers, that take advantage of the ease of sports gambling. He was a hell of a player. Not the smartest guy in the world. Ignoring the no betting rule for years and assuming he was untouchable was a huge mistake.
I think baseball has to keep the no betting rule. I expect Pete will make the HOF next year.
He paid a huge price so he could gamble in baseball. Hopefully his example helps keep all players from making the same mistake for future generations.

Interesting. Didn't think of that. Have to think the Veterans Committee are all guys that played with and against Pete.I'm not sure if it would be the writer's call or the veterans committee call as to whether he gets in the Hall. My guess is that would be the veterans committee.
The writers vote is done 5 years after you retire, for up to a 10 year period after that. So based on that it would be the call of the veterans committee. But he was never on the ballot either, so maybe he would be placed on the writer's ballot first once he is deemed eligible.
I don’t know for sure. We have all heard Pete was banned for life to I was assuming he would now be eligible for the HOF.I'm not sure if it would be the writer's call or the veterans committee call as to whether he gets in the Hall. My guess is that would be the veterans committee.

I think he should have to wait as long as shoeless joe jackson had to wait.He was a hell of a player. Not the smartest guy in the world. Ignoring the no betting rule for years and assuming he was untouchable was a huge mistake.

But Shoeless Joe Jackson remains outside the HOF and he has been dead for decades. So maybe the decision of lifetime for baseball really means forever.
That seems over the top and overly harsh. But that appears to be the precedent and maybe Pete is never getting in. Agree if he gets in, it would be via the veterans committee.
Rule 21 does say permanently ineligible. I don’t agree it should be that way, but that is how it reads.I don’t know for sure. We have all heard Pete was banned for life to I was assuming he would now be eligible for the HOF.

I guess it depends on what "banned for life" means for Major League Baseball. I think it probably extends beyond your "life" in traditional terms.
If I had to bet I don't think Pete Rose will ever be made eligible for the HOF. But I wouldn't be surprised either if he eventually was.

The HOF is separate from MLB. It is a not for profit educational institution.I don’t know for sure. We have all heard Pete was banned for life to I was assuming he would now be eligible for the HOF.

You are out of baseball, not the HOF, which is separate. He seemed like a hard guy dealing with demons. He was one of the greatest to ever play the game but I will forever believe he should never get in the HOF. It’s black and white……You gamble on the game and you’re OUT…..FOREVER.
They are seperate but they are tied very closely at the hip. Manfred is on the Board of Directors of HoF, and the bylaws for ERA's Committees state: (c) Any person designated by the Office of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball as ineligible shall not be an eligible candidate. This could be amended but I would not hold my breath waiting for that happen. You are out of baseball, not the HOF, which is separate.
Why? It's not for Joe Jackson. You are out of baseball, not the HOF, which is separate.
My idols.
Why? It's not for Joe Jackson.
