Peter Corasaniti promoted to Asst Coach

Director of operations is one thing but it’s crazy to give an assistant coach title.

This feels more like rewarding a guy who has been doing grunt work for years than it does creating a new full-fledged assistant coach position. Congrats to Pete

It does - but the lack of adding an outside hire for another assistant coach before this certainly doesn’t promote confidence around the issue. They did great with the new S and C coach so this is great for Pete and deserved but leaves question marks on the rest of the available coaching slots not filled.

Hiring Rob Harris seems to be such a game changer for the program that I would have been happy with them making Adam Weissman an assistant coach.

Sneaky- change one letter so no one will notice ;)
What? Who? I was just making up a completely random name, not any real person.

So let me get this straight. We have had 2 years to hire 2 additional coaches that the NCAA allows. Someone that can’t recruit, which would be great for an older very experienced X and O’s coach. Especially for a struggling first time head coach. And we finally fill 1 of the 2 positions with an in house guy that has 0 coaching experience and has been with the program during its downturn?

Please make it make sense. Just another example of poor execution. I continue to be amazed at the lack of a plan Autry has. He has 0 vision for this stuff.

Since they are not backfilling Pete’s role as DBO I read this as just a move that allows him to be on the floor during practices. How much actually instructions he gives to players is TBD. More a move to give a valued staff member more experience and an additional line on his resume.

In terms of not filling the two available assistant coaching positions with experienced candidates, one of two things is going on.

Either, despite public comments to the contrary, Wildhack does not have the resources to fill the potential positions with all the money that is continually going to enhancing the football support staff. Or Red has told him he doesn’t need additional coaches which would add another log to the fire for those demanding a change if this season is not successful.

Completely agree with you. I don't know him, and I certainly don't have any ill will toward him. But, this was an opportunity to hire someone with either real coaching ability or real recruiting ability or BOTH. This is a head scratcher.

Not surprising, actually. It seems like Red wants to save his job or go out on his own terms.

I have a hard time believing JW would lie publicly about having money for assistants (when he really doesn't.)

Seems like an opportunity to pick up someone with influence in the AAU circuit, just for the connections when it comes to recruiting. Other programs have un-shamefully added a coach from an AAU program or high school who has strong ties with top recruits.

I’m generally curious about the outside perception in the coaching community about the health of the program. Now that there has been a rocky start for Red along with a lot of swirl around NIL among other things is there still a long list who want to see SU as their next step? Coach Rob was a great pickup but had baggage having had to take a massive step down after UK. DE saw the program he didn’t win much at be better after he left and his value add to the program is hard to gauge at this point. Kline has deep SU roots. Straughn had connections with the staff and things hadn’t hit the rough patch just yet but he and Kline are the biggest value pieces on the staff with coach Rob looking like #3.

Im just wondering if solid up and coming options are really out there seeing SU as a great opportunity right now. I really think if this year goes well then the interest goes up a great deal. Having things like the AW stuff settle down too can only help.
