PF/C Situation For Next Season

Q is a terrific college player (and old for his class), but based on his size im not sure where he fits in the NBA. He’s 6’7 220 which is absolutely the perfect size for an NBA 3. We’ve seen flashes of shooting, but he can’t really handle the ball. If he continues to be a monster on the glass you could make the case he can be a good rebounder/adequate shooter at the next level, but that’s it right now. I do believe he’ll start to shoot more in games and show off that he can make it from 3 consistently - but there aren’t many 6’7 NBA guys that can’t handle the ball

I very much agree. At this point, he has the game of a very good college player and a questionable pro

today's nba is full of guys his size nominally playing power forward
if you can defend on switches, rebound, and hit the corner 3, you can have a long nba career

I think QG could become a better rebounding Saddiq Bey (Nova last year, 1st round pick in 2020), except Quincy is more of a small ball 4 at this stage than a 3.

I'd love to bring everyone back, and then add Benny.

Lots of things could happen, and wouldn't surprise me:

1, wouldn't surprise me if Guerrier makes the full sophomore leap and enters the draft

2, wouldn't surprise me if Marek moves on, also wouldn't surprise me if he stays

3, same for Sidibe

Let's just say all 3 go.

Can you get decent center play between Frankie, Edwards and Bol Ajak? They'd need to improve, but yeah, I think they could get it done.

Can you get decent forward minutes out of Griffin, Woody, Benny and Big Bad Bobby "Earl" Braswell? Yeah, I think that's a really good group.

Basically I think even in our worst case scenario we can be good. If any of the 3 main guys come back, we're just that much deeper and nastier.
Braswell will probably not be back. That’s probably the only sure thing

If they list Quincy at 6'7" that means he's 6'6". He has a power forward game in a small forward body. That doesn't translate well to the NBA.

Never realized he was that short. Kind of explains why he doesn’t dunk more often.

Need to hire a PF/C coach and recruit someone ready to play the center of our zone. Marek and Sidibe won't be back. It's wide open for our bench centers to develop into THE guy.

Very good summary.

Interesting to note that back when we first starting recruiting Guerrier, he was listed as a G/.

Now, to date, the perimeter skills and ability to handle haven't been strong parts of his game, but he's showing the requisite level of expansion. Hitting threes now [and showing good shot selection], facing up and driving a bit [often drawing fouls]. EXACTLY the type of year-over-year progression you'd expect from an experienced frosh taking his game to the next level.

Does that translate to the NBA? Perhaps in a small ball oriented league. My gut tells me that he needs to continue to show improvement. Not hard to envision that as a junior, he'd add even more dimensions to his game. He's got NBA athleticism, he can rebound very well, and he's adept finishing inside. He's showing the ability to spot up. If that improves, he could be a draft pick -- maybe even a first rounder -- but I think he's probably not going to optimize his draft stock leaving after this year.

I've been way wrong on these things in the past but I don't see QG going pro yet. He may ultimately be able to play the 3 but he will be undersized and under skilled even there in the NBA. The question will be does he want to develop the necessary skills starring on a college team or getting paid to practice and sit on the bench or even more likely spend a couple years getting paid to "ride the buses" in the G-League. Its a personal decision. But if he does leave and neither Marek or Sidibe come back we really have few options. Benny & Woody are classic SF types. There is no way Griffin could play the 4 at 6'5" and Braswell is more of a 2G than a PF. If all that happens...I wonder where we could find a 6'8" 220lb plus type? Maybe one that can shoot too? (please don't shoot me!)

Marek should be able to play for pay in some Euro league so I can't see him coming back.
It could make sense for Sidibe to come back and play a full healthy season to show what he can do if he wants to play professionally somewhere overseas. Depends on what he shows the remainder of this season.
Benny is a top 30 recruit. He isn't riding the pine.

Jimmy Jr??

One big question on Marek, his gf goes to school there too correct? When is she due to graduate? Are they close enough he would stay an extra year just for her?

These things can change rapidly. I thought Triston would stay hare because of Tiana.

Or conversely - maybe he left because of her, if they’d already broken up (or were about to).

Staying and developing his 3 ball is his best option.

If he gets a 1st round guarantee he has to take it though.

He is not showing up on mocks at this point. I think he will be a very attractive option to teams if stayed 3 more years and entered the NBA as a fully developed 24/25 year old. But I don't think that option is attractive to Q himself.

If Benny Williams is what we all hope he is, and the seniors want to come back, things will get very interesting.

As it stands now, starting lineup would be:

C - Anselem/Bol Ajak/Edwards
PF - Guerrier
SF - B. Williams
SG - Boeheim
PG - Richmond

Bench - Griffin, Newton, Girard, Two C's

That's a legitimate 8.5 players, with one of the centers likely transferring or not playing.

Sidibe coming back makes more sense than Dolezaj, unless you play both of them only at center. If that's the case, we're still in the same place we have been with Dolezaj in the middle of the zone -- too small and undersized.

My guess -- neither of the seniors stay, and we have the team above. Outside chance Guerrier leaves, but I think Oshae had a bit more refined game off-the-dribble. Which was beneficial in his bid to make the league. Not sure Guerrier has shown any ability to create his own shot.

No way Griffin comes off the bench as a senior. I expect Braswell and Edwards to transfer, Marek to graduate and play abroad, Quincy to go pro, and Sid to return for a 5th year.

Starting lineup:
Richmond
Boeheim
Griffin
Williams
Sidibe

Bench:
Girard
Newton
Anselem/Ajak

Why pass up three years of making good money

I don’t see Quincy turning pro til after his junior year.

Our guys tend to turn pro a year too early. Can see Quincy following Oshae to turn pro a year too early.

Q is a year older than the avg Sophomore.
So, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him head out after this season.

He might end up playing overseas. Its a stretch for him to make the NBA next year.
