Class of 2025 PF Francis Folefac (MD) Portal from Siena

He’s a 15’ kinda player. As you noted, physical and tough. I didn’t watch much Siena so that is a big disclaimer and maybe I am wrong, but he seems like an under the rim player. Which can be done if you’re very skilled and strong ala Zach Randolph, but I think ACC size will be difficult for him.

Reminds me of Jyare Davis and Dajuan Coleman types. Good against lower level comp but just aren’t quite tall enough to mix it up against high level ACC play, so the ceiling is limited.

Anyway, yeah, if it’s a depth role sure.

Year 1 quality depth while he gives you a little bit of everything. He’s not Jyare Davis. Folefac is 25 lbs bigger than Davis now and it’s not bad weight. His game is more like Omier from Miami. Not all below the rim even if he’s not some crazy athlete. Plays smart and is a quick study based on his footwork. Good vision passing out of the post as well. Hes a 5 to 10 minute guy at best to start who has to develop. Could do a lot more after getting his feet wet at this level. Ideal 9th-10th man as he is always giving you something but isn’t someone you have to lean on every night. He had to learn fast being shoved into the fire this past year.

Miami, Michigan, UVA are just a few teams who transformed a bare roster into success. It’s a different world now. We shall see what the roster looks like when all is said and done
True, however Michigan is a national brand and uva was about 5 years from a national title. SU has been stuck clinging to the past and not forward thinking, we'll see how this works out.

Miami did it and it was about having the resources and some good young coaches. That’s very similar to where we are at just with us we have more legacy and history to lean into than Miami.

Not sure it will take him as long as you suggest. He may be more of a modern big than Zach Randolph, in that he can be used in a high pick and roll due to good passing ability the capacity to process well with the ball (higher IQ player offensively than what we saw from Jyare who was more limited). Had 18 and 7 against Duke in the NCAA’s, that doesn’t scream 9th man, 5-10 min a game to me. Especially as a kid who grew into a larger role and has been learning from Arinze and has equity with the current coaches as someone they can trust out of the gate.

Looks like Mike McAllister prematurely posted a commitment article up on 247 for Francis. He quickly took it down.

Just like Doty, Folefac is getting a lot of interest from other programs.
Some may say you cant judge someone by one game, but his performance against Duke has raised a lot of eyebrows.
Another one I hope we keep - good scorer, fantastic defender and like Doty - high motor and willingness to do anything to win. He and Doty could really enforce the culture that Gerry wants to instill.

Does anybody think, that Coach Gmac wants to tell us one committed player a day?

What programs is folefac getting interest from?

It's definitely better to see a guy have a good game on the big stage than not, but what you're proposing is no way to project a roster.

Right - lots of potential, love the frame and definitely things to work with but not a player we want to ask too much of making that transition. 5-10 mins tops to me is where we want a kid like that to start and let him earn more but don’t bring him in for a bigger role immediately.

I'm not doom and gloom but the possibility of only 1 or 2 returning players with no recruiting class to maintain gives me anxiety
Just soo many holes to fill from scratch.

Good point -- but on the other hand, Michigan just won the NC fielding a starting unit comprised of all 5 transfers from the portal.

It all comes down to who we bring in. I'm not at the "anxiety" stage, but I am in wait and see mode. Hope he kills it in the portal, but 9-10 spots is a LOT to fill. So far, we've filled 2.

I wonder if we have one spot for White or Folefac back up PF?

If White stays he is out staring 4. He’s our highest upside player we have had in a while and the closest comp I can think of is Jerami Grant.

Because of his defensive ability, strength, and footwork I see Folefac as someone who can see minutes at multiple positions and could be on the court at the same time as White when we need a defensive stop.
