'Coveted'?

BTW, by definition, they're journeymen. Leaving a situation for one they hope is better.

Not looking to flame anyone, but if the freshmen aren't contributors of significance, we're not making it to the Sweet 16 based on the transfers..
I don’t disagree that Red has not shown to be a good coach, but did George not have offers from UNC and Texas? Kingz is a 44% 3 point shooter. They most definitely will be more important than any freshmen.

Rutgers had 2 top 5 freshmen and didn’t make the tournament. Transfers are leading the way for the two teams playing Monday, but fans wouldn’t have wanted to touch Clayton because he played at Iona.

lol
Again, why even post? At least educate yourself with how teams (not named duke) are put together these days - and then with which players in the portal are highly regarded - just lazy agenda-laden posting

Edit- and I too have serious doubts about Red, but that's neither here nor there with regard to our portal success thus far

The way he explained himself I took journeymen as middling or average players.
I explained it as being people unhappy in the position that they're in, hoping for a better situation.

Besides, you can pick and choose as much as you want. Yes, Rutgers sucked despite their supposedly superior freshman class, but there have been plenty of frosh this year who led their teams to the tournament and also for deep runs. Several of whom will head to the League next year. We're probably not even sniffing the tournament next year if our frosh don't make a difference. You know, like Rutgers.

OK, I'm out of this thread. Just do me a favor, cite any example of 'lazy agenda posting' I've done here over the years.

Not my jam.

Oh really? Enlighten me with those teams please.

Someone said this young guy went 9 points 12 boards against Clemson as a Freshman. That suggests that there is talent and some rebounding "will". I will take that any day of the week.
Im betting someone already said this but it was a 3OT game , thinking he played 43min. Your point is still true.

Eddie was the least of our worries.
True, I grew to like him alot as a player but financially he set us back more than planned and it hurt.
Another 300k for a PG possibly couldve made a big difference.

Well, yes, we can only take guys who want to come here. Frankly, looks like the guys who want to come here are journeymen. If we're better next year, it's b/c of our incoming freshman class. Yes, I grant you that the PG is an improvement b/c who wouldn't be?

I honestly think that if Kiyan wasn't in the class, Red would already have been gone.

Hope springs eternal, and I'm glad that people are feeling hopeful. Wish I could share in the enthusiasm.

However, to respectfully disagree with Cusefan69, who is a legit Board Hall of Famer. the question isn't 'only whether Red can coach them at least to a Sweet 16 next year', it's whether Red is in fact a decent college basketball coach. I'm leaning towards no.
Anthony has zero to do with Red being back. ZERO

The Land Of Make Believe Wow GIF

Yesterday I joked that Georgia Tech had such bad offense that without George passing to them, the Yellow Jackets might go games without scoring. Souare, unfortunately, is one of those terrible offensive players.

Souare is a total project. Extremely live body, long arms, quick feet, seems to have quick hands.

The only extended video of Souare without watching full games was from two years ago, around the time I’m guessing he touched a basketball for the first time. His national u18 team was playing in some tournament.

Watching that video of the u18 international play was painful. Every team had completely unskilled players. Many of them were long limbed and very athletic, but looked clumsy playing basketball. The US u15 team would demolish all of them.

Souare has at least been in the United States two years, and played 510 minutes for Georgia Tech. He’s probably better, and definitely not as thin. Someday he might be a baller and not an athlete that happened to start playing basketball. Maybe, with luck, that will be here. It’s shocking to me that he averaged 20 minutes on an ACC team in conference play.

My first takeaway looking at his advanced stats and his lack of highlights is that we have decided Freeman can play center and White is ready to play big minutes in the ACC, because we can’t rely on Souare for more than a few minutes a half if we want to win anything.

I’m going to suffer through 12 minutes of the Clemson-GT condensed game to see if any highlights are worth mentioning. Pour a beer out.
Did you mention how many times he fell down during those u18highlights?Lol. My memory says he fell down 4 of the first 5 plays.
He showed some good things but after a while i couldn't help but laugh at some of those falls. A couple of the falls looked like a bunch of kindling wood tumbling down a hill.
But I like his potential alot.

Personally, I will be surprised if Donnie plays any center (not that he can’t). I just don’t see it. It will depend on the game situation on how effective the other two centers are. I believe that he will be a critical part of the offense from the forward position.
Yea Its Matchup specific. I would also say give him some time to grow and get stronger and he can do alot of things especially mid/late season.

Hoops is both ends. Don't forget the other team's big man has to figure out how to guard Donnie too if we're putting shooters at all 5 positions. Imagine Eddie guarding Donnie.

Also I think we had such a terrible year on defense that people can't imagine us playing help defense. If we can't handle a big man the help better get there. We better coach that to these guys otherwise Autry is done.

He’s likely number 10 in the rotation if we sign Deng with Womack being the only player behind him. A guy with potential is about all you’re going to get for a position that deep on the bench. Guys are going to want to play.
We have a need for a backup center to play mins.

Injuries happen especially to centers We saw this the last, what, 5 years with centers?? (Maybe Jesse was healthy one year in there)

This is a smaller McLeod. For those that insisted we shouldn’t play him all year I have no idea why you would like this. We need a productive center and if you want to ask “who”. I’ve said repeatedly someone from a smaller school who wants a shot to play at a Syracuse a la Davis. If Davis had to play 10-15 mins, would have be fantastic

The question is whether he'll bounce back from the injury. If he does, he could be a viable starter. I assume this is what Kline was angling toward with our pursuit of that player.

He's a lot better than his statistics at ucla, and he's got physical tools to produce a heck of a lot more than he did at ucla. What it will produce next year? TBD.

But an interesting gamble.
We’ve done historically well w these gambles…umm

We've got a roster. Add Deng and it's a pretty competitive roster. Now, it's up to coaching. If we don't add a coach, then it's like we are 75% committed to the program. Do we have any dough left?

Well said. I will say one thing though, is that last year while we did not have on court chemistry, it did feel like the guys were close off the court. Which the prior year despite the better record, it felt we didn’t have any of that. I’m feeling more confident we could have the perfect storm with on and off court chemistry with this group they are putting together. It’s exciting!
Last year we had a bunch of nice guys that aww shucks some may even be friends forever. Noone seemed to have that killer instinct. Just a good ole last year of college for most of em.
Which is fine for Canisius.

Well said. In Kingz pics he just looks angry. Bell just looks confused. Put the two of them on the court together and we know who’s winning the matchup on both ends of the court.

People have to understand we literally have 2 players coming back. TWO. Then 4 freshman. Not every addition is going to be a sexy add. This is a good add. He’s only going to be a Sophmore. A position of need, good potential, had some good games this year and is still raw. He’s athletic and can run like a deer for his size. We need to fill out the roster. Not every addition is going to be an instant starter and averaging 10+ ppg at their last schools

Mike Woodson as a bench advisor to Red. He’s still getting paid by Indiana next year and has a great relationship with Carmelo

Small Ball without a center who can hit 3s?

In 2025?

To be fair it’s more common than you think even in 2025. Houston plays with two 6-8 bigs and neither is a threat outside the arc ( just citing an obvious example)

Quite a few teams ( tourney teams as well) have 6-8/6-9 bigs that don’t shoot it from deep.

Sounds great. As long as we get another center

Houston has 4 guys that shoot 40 percent.

You think that’s a good comparison to what we have next year?
