Short answer is that he was primarily a GMac recruit.

After GMac's departure, Red gave the pocket veto to a number of recruits that GMac had prioritized.

Not saying that as a "dig" against Gilhool -- think he would have been a decent "get," but Red opted to look elsewhere.

Don’t be surprised to see Gilhool’s name get linked to Cuse again now that he is in the portal. Matt redshirted this past season, so he has 4 years of eligibility. GMac was the lead recruiter on MG, and they were pretty tight with each other.

Biggest issue is he has been listed at 213 pounds for a long time. If he is up to 230 or at least 225, he could be a factor early. If he couldn’t put on any weight after being at LSU for 2 semesters, that is not good.

I managed to do that, and I was starting at 135.

People have to realize not every player we get is going to play and be a significant contributor. It’s just impossible to have every player be a significant contributor. He’ll have 4 years, move wayyyy closer to home, he’s a skilled lefty, not super athletic but not a horrible athlete either. He’s a player you keep in your program, get his weight up, and he becomes a significant contributor when he is an upperclassmen.

Also it’s not like he’s a hugeeee project. Some of the guys like Souare, Peter Carey, etc….have been huge projects. This kid is better than those kids. Yes he still does need some work. But it’s not like he’s bad lol. I fully expect us to be in with this kid and Estrella.

Any thoughts on PG options we might legit be in on? Would really love any one of the mix of Wilkinson, Wilkens, Blyden, Bliss, Mingo( either one or both) and maybe to a lesser extent but still a good get someone like Dixon…
