Class of 2023 PF Riley Allenspach (NC) Portal to Cincy

No idea on the money but he plays like the latest batch of Clemson guys we've seen.
I posted an article from the Clemson site on another thread that his uncle went to Clemson I think in the 80's or 90's. Wasn't a huge star but sounded like he was more of a bench player.

Though the name reads Allenspach in my head it is Spinach.

I will not explain any further.

Fine, I will come clean. This is who I was referring to when I said I feel like he's better than the rankings suggest and would end up being annoying in the ACC next season. Feels like the exact type of Clemson player that annoys the hell out of us.

He would play well off Sadiq…

His advanced metrics like PER and TS are very similar to PJ Hall. Allenspach runs about 10 lbs heavier and honestly could be in a little better shape but I’d take him as our 5 in a heartbeat and he would be just as much a PiTA for the rest of the ACC as PJ was.

Oddly enough if you look at Folefac- he’s kind of similar to Schiefflin who played at Clemson too. To me that’s a good model/role for FF to start with to get on the court.

Great hands, finishes around the rim well, soft repeatable shot from 3. He's not blocking any shots.

The length and athleticism for ACC ball I don't know (meaning I don't know - not saying he doesn't have it)

Yep, I think it's fair to be concerned about his rim protection. The team will definitely need to be built a specific way to help overcome that, but (1) Sadiq White is a great start to that and (2) I think Allenspach is a potentially good offensive building block. I really like his game on that end and the Per 40 numbers, efficiency numbers, etc. kinda speak for themselves.

Clemson among other teams has had consistently really strong to above average defensive ratings despite being on the low end of blocks per game as a team. His size alone should help but positioning, not fouling and rebounding as a whole to me matter more than blocked shots. Allenspach only averaged 1.8 fouls per game in 24 mpg last year. His rebounding numbers ( over 9 per 40) are solid.

Yup. Blocks are fun, but look at what all of William Kyle's blocks got us...

Well at least it isn't Clemson I guess.
Yep, the center portal is really a tough one. A lot of programs with a lot of money (probably including Syracuse with the money crowd) that need a big than bigs out there at the present.

Yep, likely going to have to pay what seems like over market value for a decent starting caliber center based on scarcity. It may not be the worst move to secure all the other pieces and then know what we have to offer especially if we have already decided we aren't spending 3M+ on the position. I like the Sienna kid as a backup though.

A backup to whom, is the question.
