His play lately has been great. I wonder if Anthony expressed a lack of interest or if we just stopped recruiting him as we believed that we have better options that we can close on. It doesn’t make sense if we just backed off other than if there was some negative information that we received.

I hear you. Syracuse is recruiting Deron Rippey hard, although we know the competition is steep there. I'd also keep an eye on Miles Sadler and maybe Neiko Mundey. It's entirely possible Anthony expressed a lack of interest, but that's not how it's been characterized to me.
