Class of 2023 PG Dajuan "DJ" Wagner Jr (NJ) Portal from Arkansas

Let's put it this wait. Nait George is better than him.
I never thought Nait George was the problem and technically Nait George is the better player right now. Not a culture fit with the coaching change, so I have no problem that they parted ways. Maybe Wagner is a better culture fit and continues his upward trajectory and is a net positive for his Senior year and makes those around him better as well.

It's funny -- this kid ended up being basically the exact same player as his dad. Big time HS recruit, without a position at the collegiate level.
That seems like a pretty broad brush stroke to compare the two just focusing on whether or not they had a position in college.

Dad played only one year, combo guard. Memphis was a bubble team and won the NIT that year. Collegiate career/season good enough to be the #6 pick in the NBA Draft. His NBA career was decimated by illness/injuries before it even started.

Son is going into a 4th year of college and a typical portal vagabond at this point going to a 3rd school.

They seem pretty different to me. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have no problem with George, but I want players that don't smile during and after losses. I want dawgs. George always had that look of "oh well, I'm getting paid either way."
Yeah not a culture fit for a program that has a fan base that is as passionate as ours. Especially with a coach that will match the fan bases passion.

Not sure you'd reach that conclusion if you watched both respective players play.

Wagner was the #1 recruit in the country, just like his kid [who was rated that high for a long time, before dropping slightly].

They were both scoring oriented guards, who weren't great playmakers.

Both had size limitations to play the 2, which was the best position fit for both of their games.

The dad jumped early to the NBA, and then flopped as his flaws became apparent.

This kid was considered a potential one-and-done, but that has gone away as his flaws have become apparent.

Seems basically the same to me.

There's no productivity that backs up any of this. He's been a net negative on the court his entire career.
This year, he was in the 66th %ile as a driver, 99th %ile on drive and kicks, and 99th %ile as a pnr passer. He improved Arkansas’ defense by 1.6 points per 100 possessions, which is a good mark for a small pg. last year on a better overall d, he had a top 250 d-rapm in the country, which is great for a small pg. He’s a pretty good player, whether you want to acknowledge it or not

Sign him or don’t sign him I can’t control that but what concerns me is all the people trying to rationalize this like he is a good player for 1.5 million dollars and would solve our issues. It’s like you guys haven’t watched JJ the last couple of years or is it no matter who Syracuse is linked to they are great and will magically get better than what all there stats show?

He has terrible defensive matrixs - he is an amazing on ball defender the likes we have seen here in a long time.

He is a terrible shooter. - He will improve everyone improves.

He’s JJ Starling who can pass. If he was soo good he wouldn’t have been benched.

Not a fan of this players game at all. Would be extremely disappointed if we go this route…

All that said, if he wants to come here and be the 6th man, I’d like it a lot. But as a starter? Pass
