Class of 2019 PG Dakota Leffew (GA) Portal to Georgia

Inching closer…

Is he trying to see who will pay the most? Or do you think he is legit taking these visits to find a perfect fit for his game.

Whoever he chooses the other teams are going to have to make up for lost time on a point guard.

I would like to know who SU has missed out on by waiting for Leffew to make a decision. This is the guy better or worse who the staff singled out. Why would they “move on” like many fans want now. I will be surprised if he doesn’t announce by the end of the week. Just a few more day and if doesn’t work then move on to plan B.

I don't think we've missed out on anyone.

Have you scouted Leffew the way Coach Autry & his staff have? Did you coach him the way the newest member of Red's staff has?

If you haven't then this take holds little to no value - no shade or disrespect intended - just an honest read. Coaches at this level get paid LOTS of money and put in years of work to land jobs of SU's caliber - in a prestigious league like the ACC.

If - after much research, scouting work as well as the advantage of first hand insight - Red & his staff have decided that Leffew is the player they want the most (and obviously he's not crazy judging the caliber of the other schools ALSO after DL) they have earned the benefit of the doubt, imho. As a first year coach Red somehow squeezed 20 wins out of a dysfunctional team that couldn't effin' shoot? So I think that alone should earn him a measure of respect & patience bc it demonstrates that he has coaching ability.

So why not give the man a chance to work his plan before trashing it? You certainly don't know more about Leffew, SU's player ranking board or the overall team-building strategy than Coach Autry does.

Leffew is exploring all his opportunities right now. There's not a damn thing wrong with that. When he's ready, he'll make his decision - hopefully Syracuse. But if DL decides to go elsewhere, Red WILL have a Plan B lined up and he'll do what he thinks is best to improve his squad.

But but but...I have a doctorate from IDMR (I Did My Research) University, so there's that!
I know all about the crootin, portal, & NIL game!
So you can just skedaddle with your logic, perspective, and context thingy!

I’m starting to remember why I spent 15+ years on this board plus the previous one and until recently, stayed off the BB side completely.

Some of you would never last in any sales job or any other type of high pressure job.

Agree. Michael Scott did not get 1996 and 1997 Top Salesman of the Year at Dunder Mifflin by giving up easily after a week.

It's about money. He knows he or should know he is making the NBA. Off shore maybe.

Honestly, how many people had heard of this guy 2 months ago? Is he even a top 100 transfer?

I get that it makes sense for him to milk this for all it’s worth, but if sweating some guard from the maac is what Syracuse basketball has become to (while losing our players to Clemson and Duke) it’s a sad state of affairs.

This is a make or break offseason for Red and if this is the basket he is putting all his eggs… yikes.
He’s a top 100 transfer according to The Athletic.

I’m not sure Judah shooting 35% from 3 gets the team any more wins unfortunately. The problems were much deeper
Mintz was almost pitifully bad shooting from 3 the second half of last year. Teams just gave him the shot in the second half of the season. In the first half (16 games) Mintz had 2.8 attempts at 35.6%. In the second half, his attempts were 2.5, but he only shot 20%.

By comparison, Leffew shot 36.5 % on 6.8 three attempts per game. He was over 40% his last 19 games of the season.

If Mintz hadn't had that terrible shooting slump, how many more games do we win?

mt st marys is too small to have seen a lot of these schools...its not like he has even visited these campuses, most likely

whereas a player for a bigger school already would have

so I kinda get it...roach, as a counterexample, already saw everyone so he just quickly chose
I don't think we've missed out on anyone.
there have been a ton of PGs commit already...and most of the bigger schools have already made their selections

so the funnel is narrowing regardless of whether you wanna say they were possible or affordable or whatever...there is an opportunity cost in waiting whether its obvious or not (although, with that said, yeah there will still be options out there...just likely not best fits...)

Outside of the BC game, nearly all losses were lopsided blowouts, that’s why I don’t think a couple more 3s makes a difference.

Is he? Maybe looked at an old version, I think I saw him in the 117-126 range.

I hope he is as great as the staff seems to think, it just feels like we specifically didn’t target a top guard in the portal, but someone we could afford and land. Now it seems like at best we are in a bidding war for Leffew without a clear plan b.

To be clear I trust Red, but wonder whether he has the resources to compete at the highest level.

Which is frustrating if football has the resources to go and get the transfers but basketball doesn’t.

He was originally #86 when they published their first list a few weeks back but he’s #126 now.
