He looks like he'd be a good bench option. Does not look like a lead guard to me and has shown very little ability to attempt shots much less make them before he transferred down to the Southland.

I'm not saying it's a good idea, but if the idea is to put the ball in Kiyan/Doty/3M's hands and have Dual as an off ball offensive player/point of attack defender, I can see that, though I'm skeptical of his shooting ability.

But in terms of being a PG in the modern sense of being your primary creator/one of your top scorers, I do not see it. Just doesn't look like a good ball handler to me and seems far too passive for my liking at first glance.

Think he and Doty would be good tone setters for the team's new mentality though.

If we do get Wilkinson we still need a true point. Dual might be it. Wilkinson really is an undersized shooting guard.

I’m at a point where I think Gerry wants tough nose kids who are gonna bust their a$$ on d. But I do understand the worry because it’s such a huge year for us and we have been god awful the last few years. Let’s see what happens!
 
You guys misunderstand my point. If we are on Wilkinson still and this kid is a utility plug into multiple positions off the bench guy I’ll sign up for that. If he is getting the keys then that’s very underwhelming. I agree with 0307 that he’s much better than DJW but still not a starter.

This board's overreaction to things is so interesting.

I think everyone here expects each portal guy we get to shoot 40% from 3, avg 20 per game, etc.

I'd love an elite defending starting pg. Let GMac work, people.

Not at all. There has to be some alphas in the room. Doty is good.. but he’s not going to be the guy you look to create and be a mismatch night in night out. The euro kid will be nice for sure as well but he’s a scorer like Kiyan and not likely a go to out of the gate.

So we need all different kinds of pieces for this team including some legit bigs but a big splash at lead guard vs by committee is a must if we want to see things flip in year 1.

I think this is the plan. We need about 6 guys out of the portal even with the Siena guys coming. Not everyone is going to be a jaw dropper.
 
I will not freak out about the roster until the dust settles and we know what our roster actually is, but my expectation is that Doty will be starting and 3M either starting or playing a very significant role. Kiyan will obviously be playing significant minutes. Lastly, not as confident here, but my guess is that if Moesch commits, he will have a real role off the bench. So there's probably not many minutes available at the guard spots beyond the starting PG spot. Probably a very good chance that the first guard of significance that we add in the portal will be the starting point guard.

We went big on PG last year and where did it get us?
I want big splashes, too. Not every portal is going to be some obvious home run. Its been a solid start. I dont think they anticipate Garwey Dual to be our featured player.
I agree on needing alphas, but we arent getting every premium player with some elite stat line.

To be clear, I'm not basing this off of any insider knowledge or anything. But let's pretend all 120 minutes at 1-3 are up for grabs with these guys (I would guess in reality it's less than that as they'll probably want some more size at the 3 to some extent, but just go with me here).

I would guess Doty/3M/Kiyan combine for 70-75 minutes. From those 3 alone, you're now talking about 45-50 minutes to spread around for any remaining PG, SG, or SF. If Moesch plays like 10 MPG, now you're talking 35-40 minutes.

If they want a top notch transfer PG, they're probably promising them 30+ minutes. We can haggle over a few minutes here and there, but do you think the math is far off? If we take Givony at his word that 3M is basically an All American caliber prospect, he's going to play a lot. I think Doty is straight up good and is going to play a lot. I'm not confident that Kiyan is good but I think it's very unlikely that he's glued to the bench.

I don't think anyone on this board is saying we will. With all the Nil freeing up though plus the suggested increase to the Nil bucket Syracuse absolutely should be pursuing one or two elite/high end players while mixing others in. GMac is early into the portal. Plenty of time. In this era though he should be able to flip Syracuse fortunes and make us a competitive NCAA team in year 1. Hard stop and I guarantee he believes the same.
