Class of 2023 PG Garwey Dual (TX) Portal from McNeese St

To be clear, I'm not basing this off of any insider knowledge or anything. But let's pretend all 120 minutes at 1-3 are up for grabs with these guys (I would guess in reality it's less than that as they'll probably want some more size at the 3 to some extent, but just go with me here).

I would guess Doty/3M/Kiyan combine for 70-75 minutes. From those 3 alone, you're now talking about 45-50 minutes to spread around for any remaining PG, SG, or SF. If Moesch plays like 10 MPG, now you're talking 35-40 minutes.

If they want a top notch transfer PG, they're probably promising them 30+ minutes. We can haggle over a few minutes here and there, but do you think the math is far off? If we take Givony at his word that 3M is basically an All American caliber prospect, he's going to play a lot. I think Doty is straight up good and is going to play a lot. I'm not confident that Kiyan is good but I think it's very unlikely that he's glued to the bench.
This is my concern with taking multiple Siena players. Then, the top notch portal players have to fit in with them, rather than the other way around. (Not talking about Doty, for those ready to pounce on me about him.)

Doty should be a take regardless. He was offered by just about every power 5 school. A lot who have been more successful than us. The histrionics about him are a bit much.

The other two are bench players which leaves plenty of room for other guys. One player we are interested in is a high scoring guard from Georgia who’s been discussed very little on this board. And it’s hard to go after a high end forward until we figure out the White situation. This is all a very fluid situation.

We're really talking about Moesch playing 10-15 minutes already LOL
If he's playing 15, it means either he's better than expected or we're a lot worse than expected. I think 5-10 is pretty likely for the level of recruit that he is, and unless the real number is 0, it probably doesn't change the math very much. We're likely looking for a starting PG and then beyond that, guards that have no promise of minutes but think they can beat out a freshman for a relatively small role.

I'm not saying this to be doom and gloom: if 3M is what Givony thinks he is, we're probably a good PG away from having a strong trio plus whatever Kiyan is.

Stop being so rationale! This board likes flipping out prematurely.

I’ll play- Wilkinson, Dual, Anthony, Doty, 3M, Moesch is your 1-3s. Then you sort out things at the 4 and 5. Estrella, Sadiq, Folefac, Petar, Gilhool in the front court and hopefully another athlete or two mixed in given Gilhool and Petar aren’t really likely to play much hopefully maybe a 7 footer.

Hypothetical but could be a team that can win.

Who’s your go to guy in this scenario?

I like that team a lot.

Feels like we would still have cap space. Personally I am not high on Estrella. I think we should look elsewhere. Injury prone and not a shot blocker.

If Estrella is a legit health risk then agree. Sadiq is a weak side threat at the rim but we definitely would need a shot blocker to pair with the rest of the frontcourt depth. If Estrella is healthy I do think that could work though especially with proficiency on the boards. If we use that drop defense at times and have good ball pressure and perimeter size that offsets things a bit around the rim so long as we aren’t playing small.

Who would be a go to guy in the front court? This team is offensively challenged. No alpha bigs.

I’m not a big Estrella fan. The rim protection on that team would be lacking and you’re relying a lot on Sadiq/Gilhool. I like Folefac but he’s only 6ft 7

This is where coaching comes in having AO. That’s the evolution for Estrella. Sadiq is a lob threat and can finish in the lane. There isn’t a go to low post offensive big in the portal. Carey at Tenn is an option but too short defensively.

Gilhool is developmental. You need another shot blocking 5 in that team I laid out

I don't necessarily think you need one, but I don't think it's a long leap to believe Estrella could be that. And maybe you get lucky and the flashes of a hook shot from Sadiq turns into something more consistent.

Well not flipping out...but we all like to jump to conclusions pretty quick around here. Gotta let the dust settle a bit, portal just opened today and people are getting the jitters already!
I see your point. It seems like, if anything, most people have been pretty calm considering we have three players.

Out of curiosity what other bigs that have jumped in really catch your eye over Estrella?
