Class of 2023 PG Garwey Dual (TX) Portal from McNeese St

Najai Hines from Seton Hall. The guy is a house. 6'10' 270 and an elite shot blocker. Only a Sophomore. I am sure he will command big money.
I love the idea of putting Hines and Estrella together. Then having one other big in a 3 man rotation at the 4 and 5.

I’ll play- Wilkinson, Dual, Anthony, Doty, 3M, Moesch is your 1-3s. Then you sort out things at the 4 and 5. Estrella, Sadiq, Folefac, Petar, Gilhool in the front court and hopefully another athlete or two mixed in given Gilhool and Petar aren’t really likely to play much hopefully maybe a 7 footer.

Hypothetical but could be a team that can win.
Hypothetically insane lineup if you want to compete for more than making the ACC tourney.

How about the guy from Boise state? Thought he would be a nice addition.
Word is he has multiple offers over two million already. One of the better bigs in the portal. Haven’t seen any schools but if I had to guess Michigan, SJU like someone mentioned, and Alabama will likely be in on him.

I’m at a point where I think Gerry wants tough nose kids who are gonna bust their a$$ on d. But I do understand the worry because it’s such a huge year for us and we have been god awful the last few years. Let’s see what happens!

Do you know a significant amount of coaches that don’t want this?

It’s about tradeoffs… every coach says they want players like that but then see kids who don’t but have other elite skills

I don’t think it’s as negotiable with our new coach

Ehh. Ok. There are just word salad phrases largely. That’s like Fran’s DART and then we watched last years team. No coach wants guys who don’t work hard. But every coach wants a guy who helps them win games. The guy who’s a bulldog on the court is a great trait but there’s only so many of those guys, just like there are only so many great shooters, guys who see the floor or are great at boxing out.

We're just one of probably 50 or more schools who have the $$
to attract the big names. Every school needs to have a difference
maker to make them more attractive. The one difference maker we don't have is a recent history of success on the court.

We can parlay the dome and any dynamic that GMac can bring to the party, but that's about it. With a pool of $2m talent that's out there, we may get the lower end of that group. Not bad but not the upper level some fans are looking for.

One thing I know for certain…we ain’t following the formula of the last 3 years. The one guy I wish we had back is Kyle. He’d be a perfect fit
Thanks AZ. Can you provide any more detail on the philosophical differences? I'm not even sure I know what our playbook was the last 3 years.

He needs A LOT of players.

They'll all fit the profile to some degree.

But I'm guessing at the numbers he needs to field a competitive team they won't all be perfect fits.

I don’t think it’s as clear cut as that. Playing time, play style, coaches attitude, future, all that ties in too.

This guys Evan Miya advanced metrics are beyond intriguing FWIW
His HS tape is also intriguing. Had no idea who he was before yesterday but consider me now intrigued.

Based on his HS tape, this kid has traits - lengthy, bouncy, has a twitchy handle with a penetrating pass-first mentality and affinity for slick, crowd pleasing passes that worked in HS. And he appears active and disruptive defensively.

I don't see many jump shots though and he doesn't appear to shoot from the perimeter very much. But the form on his jumper does at least look solid.

I can see the potential he flashed in HS so I'd have to imagine he's improved and developed further since then, so the strong interest now makes sense bc young Mr. Dual looks like he can play.

I am not sure Red knew his playbook either
