Class of 2023 PG Garwey Dual (TX) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (4/11/26)

Are we sure he is a better option than George?
Significantly better. On both ends of the floor. There's this thing called the Eye Test and Dual passes it.

Don't believe me? Then just ask HCGM and his promising new staff who've seen all the film, read all the scouting reports, talked to their contacts and scoured through all the analytics, and then decided to allocate a portion of their very "precious resource" aka NIL money, on the talented Mr. Dual.

I can't understand all the whining and complaining over signing a very skilled, ascending player with acknowledged, legit NBA traits who GMac obviously believes in.

I'm intrigued by what seems to be the deliberative and strategic roster-building process that GMac & his staff are going through. I think the end result will be a well-constructed tournament worthy roster, with each player bringing different things and having a specific role.

I imagine Dual is being brought in to be the Senior leader on a team of mostly underclassmen - be it as a starter or key rotation piece. I'm sure GMac will also add his underclassman "PG of the Future." Once that player is signed, he and Dual can battle it out in training camp for who starts and plays the most.

I'm of the belief that HCGM & his staff totally get the current day roster-building process and it's starting to play out nicely. Dual is a solid pick up. Looking forward to see who he ends up being paired with @ PG.

Don’t other staffs do the same thing?

The skepticism is over what you mentioned, ascending players. We don't have a sure thing.

Of the returning guys, Sadiq feels like he should be ascending. I'm a bigger Kiyan fan than most, but his best basketball needs to be ahead of him, and he's going to have to work like crazy to get to where we need him as a fully realized basketball player.

On the new guys...

Goodrick is pretty likely to be better than Souare, who is not good at basketball, and that's about it, and hopefully about all we need him to be.

Our Euro is intriguing but is no sure thing. So we do hope he ascends.

Doty had a strong year at Siena but is making a huge leap going to the ACC. We have to hope he's ascending in a huge way since GMAC has suggested he's a big part of the plans.

Dual I like more than most but his biggest plus is his experience and he has the kind of measurables and defensive advance stats the analytics nerds get horny over. But this is another case where we're hoping he's ascending.

The appeal to bringing in GMAC was he would have the best donor support, ie best NIL, ie get the best talent we can.

What we've seen manifest SO FAR, and could change, is a lottery ticket approach hoping enough guys ascend. We don't have a single sure thing RIGHT NOW.

Funny enough, our new guy here Dual is the one who actually played for the #65 KenPom team in McNeese State.

That said, Wilkins is rated as a top 50 transfer, per the Athletic, so posters popping on him now are also playing the coping game.
4 turnovers per game for Wilkins. Doesn’t fit Gerry’s value of ball security.

Tobiason is the biggest needle mover offensively once he’s locked down. There are a lot of guys in the portal who need to make a jump to be fair including guys in the top 75.

I’m not seeing the same guaranteed productivity from the P5 entries in the portal expected honestly. Maybe that’s since we are two years removed from the 5th year guys now but overall it’s an underwhelming portal in that regard… especially with prices as high as they are.

We aren’t likely to be alone in needing several guys to make a jump. I don’t love it but it seems just a reality for a lot of programs. This means the staff is on the hook more than expected to make it happen. I’m not sure if we landed two 3-4 million dollar guys and then bargain hunted the rest that our odds would be much different than the trend so far.

This whole new reality isn’t fun or enjoyable.

As you know, I am a fan of Dual after watching his game tape. He has talent and unique physical traits.

One trend seems certain, a lot will be riding this season on GMac's ability to "know good" when he sees it.

When hes handling the rock and driving he looks just like Kadary. Looks like a lock down defender and not a complete slouch scoring. Need to lock down Tobiason and hope 3M/Doty/Kiyan make a jump. Definitely dont hate the pick up but we need more punch on offense. I hope we spend big on a legitimate wing and center.

He likely wasn’t that expensive but he does have an elite skill and now has learned how to be efficient on both sides of the ball.

Key 2025-26 Season Stats (McNeese State):
  • Points/Game: 8.4
  • Assists/Game: 4.4
  • Rebounds/Game: 2.9
  • Steals/Game: 1.67
  • Field Goal %: 45.6%
  • Assist/Turnover Ratio: 2.58
I guess one of the questions is can he keep his ATR in the acceptable range in a P4 conference like the ACC??

Here's hoping... Especially if he's our starter.

Clearly he's an a elite defender, but we will need to see how the rest of his game translates in the ACC.

All this.

People penciling in anyone from Siena as transitioning to the ACC with ease is crazy. The MAAC is several rungs below and just bc they had a great game against Duke, doesn’t mean they didn’t finish third in a bad conference.

Sadiq is our most known talent right now. MMM is probably the best “bet” to transition to ACC basketball.

I am with you on Kiyan’s flashes last year being legit, but he has to get work in in a number of areas.

I don’t hate Dual. At McNeese St he was efficient and can play D, but unless we land a few sure thing scorers, I don’t know how he fits well with a starting group. Also, he didn’t do it at the power conference schools he was at before.

Also, he isn’t Kadary. Kadary was much better.

I am optimistic about Dual IF he is not a definite starter. The eye test says Kadary. The stats are closer to Symir Torrence.
I think poor man's kadary is a pretty accurate read. He is certainly better than Torrence. Btw I watched some highlights of Dual at Seton Hall and he messed up kadary in a couple of different games, bodied the hell out of him, blocked him and stole the ball

I'm with you, I like the Dual pick up.

I think I'm more concerned about missing on Buljan as a big.

I don’t mind Dual as a player I actually think he could bring value to a team on the defensive side of the ball. My issue with Dual comes in team construction we have too many players slated to play major roles on the team that all have the same weaknesses. Tobiason if he ends up coming here is a start in correcting the issue. 3MM looks nice as well but Euro scares me after everyone told me to love Fennell last year. I felt a different type of PG was needed around the trio of Doty Anthony and White.

Tobiason is massively important to lock down because of this. He changes the complexion of all this once he’s on board. Honestly so would adding the UC SD kid too- he’s going to blow up.

Are we sure he is a better option than George?
When you factor in he probably is getting half of what George got, yes. Defensive versatility and valuing the ball are crucial PG skills. Based on who were linked to I get the sense he’ll be closer to 20-25 mpg across multiple positions than averaging 35-37 mpg.
